Common problems: Drivers of the 2019 Ford EcoSport have reported several recurring issues, particularly with the engine, transmission, and electrical systems.
In May 2019, Ford issued a recall for some 2019 EcoSport models due to improperly welded front seat frames, which could result in unsecured seat backs. Ford dealers addressed this issue by replacing the front seat assemblies at no cost to the owners.
In December 2023, another recall was announced for the EcoSport, this time due to engine problems.
These included a drive belt tensioner arm that could fracture or separate from the tensioner backing plate, and a drive belt that could degrade and lose teeth.

Common 2019 Ford Ecosport Problems
- Engine: Power loss, overheating, turbocharger failure, sudden engine shutoff, check engine light on, engine oil pressure warning light, loss of acceleration, excessive oil consumption, oil leaks
- Transmission: Grinding or squealing sounds when shifting gears, delayed shifting, transmission warning light, jerking, slipping gears, transmission fluid leaks
- Electrical System: Radio errors, loss of power braking assist, tire pressure monitoring system light (TPMS), battery warning light, battery issues
2019 Ford Ecosport Engine Problems
Drivers of the 2019 Ford Ecosport have noted several engine issues, mainly involving power loss, overheating, engine shutoff, and engine warning lights. NHTSA’s site alone contains over 100 official ratings that mention engine problems.
A significant safety recall was issued by Ford involving 2019 EcoSport vehicles equipped with a 1.0L engine.
The recall addresses a defect in the belt-driven oil pump, where the tensioner arm may break or detach, leading to a drop in oil pressure. This defect can result in severe engine damage, power loss, and diminished braking power.
Before these critical failures, drivers might experience loud engine noises and see warning lights for low oil pressure or check engine indicators on the dashboard. The NHTSA has documented this recall under campaign number 23V905.
These engine problems pose significant safety risks for drivers. A sudden loss of power or power braking can lead to dangerous driving conditions, especially at high speeds or in heavy traffic.
Engine damage can cause the vehicle to stall or fail to accelerate, increasing the risk of accidents.
2019 Ford Ecosport Transmission Problems
The 2019 Ford EcoSport has exhibited several transmission-related issues, as evidenced by multiple ratings from the NHTSA.
Drivers have reported the vehicle being sluggish when shifting gears, experiencing erratic shifting, and encountering transmission fluid leaks.
Additionally, some have noted a dragging clutch and the check engine light illuminating.
Other reported issues include jerking or slipping gears, particularly during acceleration or deceleration. These problems may be caused by transmission fluid deficiencies or worn-out clutch plates.
Transmission malfunctions can compromise the vehicle’s performance and safety- we highly recommend getting repairs for these issues as soon as possible.
2019 Ford Ecosport Electrical System Problems
The 2019 Ford EcoSport has been known to experience a variety of electrical system issues, which can significantly impact driver safety.
Common problems include radio errors, loss of power braking assist, tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) light activation, battery warning light illumination, and battery issues.
Electrical system problems can pose serious safety risks. Loss of power braking assist can make it challenging to stop the vehicle promptly, especially in emergency situations, increasing the risk of collisions.
Errors in the tire pressure monitoring system can prevent drivers from being aware of low tire pressure, which can lead to tire blowouts or poor handling.
Battery issues and warning light activations can result in unexpected vehicle shutdowns or failures, leaving drivers stranded in potentially hazardous conditions.
Ecosport Owner Complaints
“No lights came on to warn me or anything and my engine went completely out. I took it in and it was the oil pressure that caused my engine to fail. I had to get a new engine, transmission, and a whole bunch of other new things done to my car. AFTER repairs covered by warranty I continue driving and right away I noticed my car making weird noises (like whirring and purring). I took it into ANOTHER ford dealership. This dealership told me that the OTHER dealership did the repairs all wrong and that my car was a mess under the hood…and BOTH dealerships argued who was going to pay for the repairs . To this day I still hear the whirring even though they claim it’s fixed”
“My cars low engine oil light came on suddenly and then the engine started making noises. Full on oil and not leaking. Mechanic says it’s an internal issue and will be $5600 to repair. I already have an electrical issue with the A-pin that Ford said was $3000. It never got repaired because they never contacted me saying the part was in. The engine issue has a recall for the year make and model of my car but my car was built 7 days after the cut off.”
“So I currently own a New Ecosport. What a disappointment, I will list all thin pro and mostly cons: Cons: 1. TERRIBLE on gas-avg 20.7 combined after 3,000 miles paying close attention to acceleration. 2. Own the SES-terrible rough ride with low profile tires that will need replacing from the smallest pot hole-replaced 2 thus far. 3. POOR acceleration, think my lawn mower is faster 4. VERY cheaply made-FORD FLUFF 5. FORD DOES ***NOT*** STAND BEHIND THERE PRODUCTS! 6. Don’t get into an accident as I did-TOOK 6 MONTHS to repair -Ford admitted NOT having parts due to its a new body style-FRAUDULANT practice to sell a vehicle and not disclose this 7. This was my 12th FORD and my LAST!!! Pros: NONE! Can’t wait for my lease to be over!!!”
Consumers who buy or lease a car that continuously falls short of quality and performance criteria while it is still under warranty have legal redress according to the Lemon Law.
A car is not legally deemed a lemon until after a reasonable number of repair attempts have been made and the issues substantially impar its safety, use or value.
A refund, replacement car, or monetary compensation are possible remedies, depending on the lemon law statutes in your area. The manufacturer may subtract a usage fee for the time the vehicle was used trouble-free from any refund or replacement choices.
Those who receive a replacement vehicle might be responsible for any price difference.
In most states, the auto manufacturer is responsible to pay for the consumer’s legal fees and costs where the consumer is the prevailing party.
This makes pursuing a lemon law an easy and right financial decision as there should be no out of pocket expenses to the consumer for their legal representation.
