Common problems with the 2019 Honda CR-V include airbag problems, electronic system problems, forward collision avoidance system problems, and steering problems.
Seven recalls have been issued for this vehicle, three of which involved the fuel pump, one for the steering wheel, one for a seat belt buckle not latching, one for subframe separation, and one for incorrect airbag information.
Vehicle manufacturing processes have greatly advanced over the last century, allowing vehicles to be made with more materials, with different techniques, and containing more features and technologies than ever before.
Nevertheless, no process is perfect, and vehicles still end up with defects. Consumers purchase these vehicles and report the problems they encounter to places like the National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration or the Kelley Blue Book.
In this article, we will compile information from many sources so that you can be informed on the 2019 Honda CR-V’s common problems.
Then, we will briefly discuss the lemon law and how you can use it to be compensated for the purchase of a defective vehicle.
Common 2019 Honda CR-V Problems
- Airbag Problems: Airbags not deploying during accident, airbag sensor not noticing passenger
- Electronic System Problems: Warning lights randomly illuminate, instrument cluster lights off, infotainment system problems
- Forward Collision Avoidance System Problems: Brakes engage on their own, vehicle falsely detects obstacles
- Steering Problems: Steering wheel resists turning, stiff turns, creaking noise while turning
2019 Honda CR-V Airbag Problems
Airbag problems are those which impact either the airbag sensors or the ability of the airbags to properly deploy in the event of an accident.
Most airbag problems don’t cause anything to happen, but instead result in the vehicle not deploying the airbags when they are needed.
This makes airbag defects very dangerous, as airbags are vital safety protections for vehicle passengers.
Owners of the 2019 Honda CR-V described their airbags not deploying during an accident and their airbag sensors not detecting the presence of a passenger.
Honda issued one recall that involved the airbags and their sensors not properly illuminating. The NHTSA Recall ID for this was 19V694, and the recall took place in September 2019.
2019 Honda CR-V Forward Collision Avoidance System Problems
Forward collision avoidance systems are a combination of sensors and automatic brakes, which work together to detect obstacles and then slow or stop the car accordingly.
Unfortunately, these systems are prone to malfunction in many different vehicles because false detection of obstacles happens frequently.
This can cause the car to brake on its own and scare the driver or other drivers on the road. Consumers did report these problems to be the most common with their vehicle.
2019 Honda CR-V Steering Problems
Steering problems are more uncommon for vehicles to have than others and also pose a significant safety risk to the driver.
Consumers reported experiencing their steering wheel resisting turns, turns being stiff or sticky in general, and a creaking noise while turning.
Any impact on the driver’s ability to properly steer their vehicle can be extremely dangerous and should be treated with caution.
Consumers who notice their steering being impacted by a defect should take the vehicle in to be inspected and repaired as soon as possible.
CR-V Owner Complaints
“Emergency breaking for no reason. Car shuts down and stalls. Flashing Emission system problem, brake systems problem, brake hold systems problem, Power steering systems problem, vehicle stability assist problem, Hill start assist problem, adaptive cruise control problem, Collision mitigation System problem, Road departure mitigation system, problem. This is continuing to happen after the recall was supposed to be fixed. My car is unsafe to drive.”
“I currently have a 2019 Honda CRV that rides like a roaring truck. It has a lot of road noise and I regret purchasing this car every day. It’s currently in the repair shop to have the door actuator replaced. Unfortunately the repair will take 2 days and I rented a 2023 Honda CRV because I was having the repair done at the dealership as part of my extended warranty. It runs almost the same as the 2019. A lot of road noise and it roars but, not in a good way. I will never buy another Honda vehicle ever!”
“When driving, the Steering feels like it “sticks” in one position. The problem has been ongoing for about a year and has gotten worse. My vehicle now has 28,294 miles on it but is out of warranty due to time. I had it to the dealership today and was told the part to fix it is the steering rack and is already on back order and cannot predict when it can be repaired at a cost of 3500.00-4000.00. I was told by the service department tech that it is safe to drive, but I don’t think it is as it creates more effort to steer.”
What You Need to Know About Lemon Law Claims
Lemon laws, established in most states, provide a legal framework enabling consumers to bring claims against manufacturers who sell defective vehicles, commonly known as “lemons.”
These laws typically ensure that consumers receive either a replacement vehicle or a refund if they end up with a faulty one.
The process typically begins when a consumer identifies recurring issues with their vehicle that significantly impair its use, safety, or value and persist through multiple (usually two to four) repair attempts.
Initially, the consumer must report the issues to the manufacturer or authorized dealer, giving them a reasonable number of opportunities to fix the problem.
If the manufacturer or dealer fails to repair the vehicle after these attempts, the consumer can either begin negotiations with the manufacturer or proceed with hiring a lemon law attorney.
During these processes, both parties present evidence, such as repair records, to substantiate their claims regarding the vehicle’s condition.
If the consumer wins the case, the consumer’s attorney’s fees and costs are covered, making the hiring of a lemon law attorney an easier and cost-free decision to make.
Consumers who succeed in their negotiations or lawsuits are usually entitled to either a replacement vehicle, similar to the defective one, or a refund of their payments towards the defective vehicle. This refund includes the down payment, monthly payments, tax and interest.
With both the refund and replacement options, the manufacturer is usually allowed to deduct a usage fee representing the time the vehicle worked without issues causing it to be a lemon.
Overall, the lemon law process ensures that consumers are not left without recourse if they purchase or lease a defective vehicle, offering a structured path to resolution through repairs, negotiation, arbitration, or litigation.
This legal protection empowers consumers, providing them with the means to seek and obtain fair compensation for defective vehicles.
