Common problems: Electrical system issues, back over prevention problems, transmission problems, and structural problems were most commonly reported for the 2019 Honda Ridgeline. Ten recalls have been issued for this vehicle.
They primarily concern the structural elements of the vehicle, like paneling or mounting holes, fuel pump issues, and electronics issues like rearview camera problems.
When buying a new vehicle, especially a pickup truck, consumers often consider reliability to be one of the most important qualities.
Most consumers will do extensive research on the vehicles they want to purchase, but it can be difficult to parse out all the information available.
In this article, we will be summarizing the most common complaints regarding the 2019 Honda Ridgeline. We will also cover the lemon law and how consumers can use it to be compensated.
Common 2019 Honda Ridgeline Problems
- Electrical System Issues: Car alarm randomly goes off, rearview camera blank or black, windows randomly roll down
- Back Over Prevention Problems: Rearview camera problems
- Transmission Problems: Transmission failure, banging noises, gear slippage, shuddering
- Structural Problems: Hood vibration, tailgate hinge weak
2019 Honda Ridgeline Electrical System Issues
Electrical system issues are some of the more common issues for modern cars to have because there are a lot of different systems that can potentially run into problems.
In the 2019 Honda Ridgeline, consumers reported their car alarms randomly going off, their rearview camera being blank or black, and their windows randomly rolling down.
Sometimes, these problems can be remedied by software updates provided by the manufacturer wirelessly. Otherwise, they may require a mechanic to fix.
Honda has issued a recall for their rearview cameras not working properly. This recall was issued in November 2022 and advised consumers to take their vehicle in for rearview camera replacement. The NHTSA Recall ID is 22V867.
2019 Honda Ridgeline Transmission Problems
Transmission problems impact the ability of the driver to properly control acceleration and deceleration. When the transmission is not working properly, the vehicle may also have problems staying in certain gears.
For the 2019 Honda Ridgeline, consumers reported transmission failure, banging noises, gear slippage, and shuddering while driving.
Because of how dangerous a vehicle with a faulty transmission can be, a vehicle displaying transmission problems should be taken to an authorized dealer as soon as reasonably possible.
2019 Honda Ridgeline Structural Problems
Structural problems were also reported at high rates by 2019 Honda Ridgeline owners, primarily concerning the hood vibrating and the tailgate hinge being weak.
Overwhelmingly, structural complaints on this vehicle were about the hood vibrating at high speeds while driving.
Consumers expressed fear that their hood would come up and either obscure their sight or create a hazard on the road if it detached.
Honda has issued three recalls relating to the structure of the 2019 Honda Ridgeline. The first concerned incorrectly sized pillar mounting holes.
This recall was issued in November 2018. The second is for the truck bed cover, also called a tonneau cover, and was issued in September 2020.
The third recall was for the hood opening and was issued in November 2021. The NHTSA Recall IDs for these recalls are 18V848, 20E068, and 21V932 respectively.
Concerns from ‘19 Honda Ridgeline Owners
“Image from rearview camera no longer appears in instrument panel center screen when reverse is selected. It can be clearly seen that the wires connecting the camera are severed where the tailgate hinges on the body.”
“Upgraded to a 2019 Rtl from a 2008 RTL , sadly would not do it if I had a doover. Radio is worse then a stock 1970s in sound quality on AM/FM. Engine is loud and sounds like a 4 cyl. Ride is stiffer then in my old 2008. Door lock and unlock non customizable unless you upgrade the entire sound system w Nav. All in all …’Meh’ Jeep Gladiator here I come.”
“When the tailgate of the Ridgeline is open like a door it slams shut hitting the person loading something into the bed in the back. The hinge isn’t strong enough to hold the door open.
The truck has to be parked on perfectly level ground to keep this from happening. Honda has been made aware of this problem.”
The Lemon Law and Your Defective Honda Truck
Most states have enacted lemon laws to protect consumers. Lemon laws create a path for consumers to be compensated if they have purchased or leased a defective vehicle that has been repeatedly repaired under the manufacturer’s original warranty.
A vehicle with defects that impact its safety, usability, or value, and which have undergone repeat repair attempts, will likely be classified as a “lemon.”
When a consumer identifies a defect in their vehicle and takes it in for repairs, the lemon law process has begun. It is very important for the consumer to maintain detailed records of all repairs, including dates, reported issues, and repair attempts.
This documentation is crucial for substantiating a strong claim. A vehicle that undergoes two to four repair attempts or spends 30 days out of service is likely to be considered a lemon.
Once the vehicle is determined to very likely be a lemon, consumers should consider engaging with an attorney who specializes in lemon law cases who can help navigate this process and enhance the chances of a favorable outcome.
Consumers who successfully bring their claim will be offered a remedy, which can be either a comparable replacement vehicle, a refund of all expenses incurred in the purchase of the vehicle, or cash compensation.
In some cases, incidental expenses such as rental car fees or registration renewal costs may also be refunded.
In most states, a consumer who prevails in their lemon lawsuit will have their reasonable attorney’s fees covered and paid for by the defendant. This makes the legal representation come at no personal expense to the consumer.
