Chrysler (FCA) previously recalled specific 2019 Jeep Cherokee due to a potential transmission issue.  

According to documents filed with the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration), FCA discovered that the transmission calibration improperly coordinated various aspects of transmission operation during deceleration, increasing the risk of engine stalling.

    The affected vehicle population was identified due to a transmission calibration issue specific to the 2019 model year Cherokee with a 2.4L 4-cylinder engine.

    This calibration failed to properly synchronize various aspects of transmission operation during deceleration, increasing the risk of a stall.

    On October 16, 2018, a transmission calibration update was implemented in production to resolve this issue completely.

    Vehicles manufactured on or after October 16, 2018, received this updated transmission calibration and are not part of this recall.

    How Will Jeep Fix the Problem?

    FCA US notified dealers and started informing owners around December 8, 2018. Through this recall notification from October 2018, FCA is providing a potential solution via a software update.

    Dealers are directed to check the software level of the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and, if required, reprogram it.

    Service providers will inspect the software level of the Transmission Control Module (TCM) and reprogram it if necessary.
