Common problems: Engine problems, steering problems, and electronic systems problems were most frequently mentioned for the 2020 Cadillac XT4.
Five recalls have been issued for this vehicle: one for a faulty brake boost sensor, one for missing bolts on the start/stop accumulator, one for overcured tires, one for the rear seat belt retractor not working properly, and one for a broken rearview camera.
Even with manufacturing processes becoming more and more advanced, products are made every day containing some form of defect.
Vehicles are no different, but their defects tend to be much more expensive to fix and often produce a lot of stress for the consumer.
In this article, we will be going over the most commonly reported problems with the 2020 Cadillac XT4 so that you can be better informed as a potential buyer or current owner.
We will also cover the lemon law and how you can use it to be compensated for purchasing a defective vehicle.
Common 2020 Cadillac XT4 Problems
- Engine Problems: Stalling, engine failing, loss of motive power, overheating
- Steering Problems: Compromised steering due to wire coating
- Electronic System Problems: Soy-based wire coating, faulty rearview camera
2020 Cadillac XT4 Engine Problems
Owners of the 2020 Cadillac XT4 mentioned engine problems more than any other type of problem, though few were reported generally on this particular vehicle.
Of the problems mentioned, stalling, engine failure, and a loss of motive power came up most frequently.
These problems could be caused by any number of things and likely would require a mechanic to properly diagnose and repair.
At the same time, these problems should not be neglected if they appear because any of them could be dangerous for the driver or others on the road.
2020 Cadillac XT4 Steering Problems
Steering problems were the other primarily mentioned problem with the 2020 Cadillac XT4, mainly because the coating on the wires in the 2020 Cadillac XT4 is made of soy and therefore attracts animals like squirrels to chew on them.
This can cause damage to the vehicle and according to at least one report, the steering system as well.
Having an impaired steering system is dangerous for obvious reasons, and any notice that the steering is not working properly should be taken seriously by the vehicle owner.
XT4 Owner Complaints
“The wiring in the Cadillac is soy based and squirrels have ate the wires out of my engine three times. It makes the steering compromised and unsafe. The warning comes up drive with caution steering compromised. Not exact but you get the gist.”
“A few issues… car is loud on bumpy road. Would expect more from Cadillac. Options for dash customization are lacking. No time or temp in front of you. Seat belts should snug like Mercedes. Seats are comfortable and power is there. I know I’m being picky but you should expect no road noise.”
“I’m disappointed in my new XT4. The car cabin is super loud, especially when driving on the Hwy where there is concrete. The ride is a stiff ride. I’m looking at replacing the tires hoping that will help with some of the noise. If that doesn’t work, I will probably trade XT4 in for another Compact SUV that has a quiet cabin and not a rough ride.”
Enforce Your Rights Through the Lemon Law
The lemon law is a vital piece of consumer protection legislation aimed at helping individuals who purchase or lease vehicles that end up having repeat defects.
When a car has issues that affect its usability, safety, or overall value, and the manufacturer is unable to repair these problems despite a reasonable number of attempts, the vehicle is likely to be considered a “lemon.”
Consumers who own or lease a lemon are typically entitled to either a replacement vehicle, a refund, or cash compensation.
The refund typically includes the reimbursement of the down payment, monthly payment, taxes, and other related incidental costs.
Manufacturers are able to deduct fee called the “usage fee” that represents the time the vehicle was driven without any issues causing it to be a lemon.
The specifics of the lemon law can vary significantly from state to state, affecting the number of repair attempts a manufacturer is allowed before the vehicle can be deemed a lemon, as well as the precise steps a consumer must follow to file a claim.
Generally, the process begins with the consumer reporting the defect and seeking repairs from the manufacturer.
Usually, if the problem persists after repeat repair attempts, the consumer can proceed with a claim.
Consumers can either represent themselves with a claim against the manufacturer or hire an attorney to represent them with a lemon law claim. In either situation, hiring a lemon law attorney is highly recommended.
Such an attorney can help you keep your case organized and maximize your odds of being adequately compensated.
Negotiations may be possible for a consumer to manage without the help of an attorney, but going to court without one is extremely inadvisable.
In most states, consumers who prevail in their lemon law action are entitled to reasonable attorney’s fees and costs. This means their legal representation is paid for and comes at no personal cost to them.
