Common problems with the 2021 Acura RDX include Engine problems, transmission problems, and brake problems.
Two recalls have been issued for this vehicle, one for airbags not properly deploying and one for the driveshaft failing.
The last thing any owner of a new vehicle wants to discover is a hidden defect that makes their new car unsafe or unable to properly operate.
For most consumers, this isn’t something they have to worry about. Unfortunately, there are an unlucky few who end up with vehicles that should work, but do not.
Luckily for consumers who end up with defective vehicles, lemon laws allow consumers to bring claims for defective vehicles against manufacturers.
In this article, we will be summarizing that process as well as discussing the most common 2021 Acura RDX problems.
Common 2021 Acura RDX Problems
- Engine Problems: Stalling, loss of motive power, problems accelerating
- Transmission Problems: Gear slippage, car shifting itself out of park, problems accelerating and decelerating
- Brake Problems: Brakes don’t apply properly, brake failure, grinding and squealing
2021 Acura RDX Transmission Problems
Transmission problems were the second most reported problem on the 2021 Acura RDX and comprised seven of the fifty-eight total complaints.
Transmission problems involve the vehicle’s transmission and gear system, which moves power from the engine to the tires and allows the vehicle to accelerate or decelerate.
It is one of the more dangerous parts of a vehicle to not work properly, as the driver needs to be able to speed up and slowdown in response to road conditions and other drivers.
If discovered, transmission problems should prompt a trip to a mechanic for inspection and repair.
2021 Acura RDX Brake Problems
Like transmission problems, brake problems are dangerous and should be addressed by a mechanic as soon as they are discovered.
In the 2021 Acura RDX, consumers reported their brakes not applying properly, brake failure, and the brakes grinding and squealing.
Any of these problems could be symptoms of a more serious defect or can cause serious problems on their own and should therefore be taken seriously by the driver of the vehicle.
Issues from RDX Drivers
“During acceleration on highway to pass a vehicle the Acura RDX lost power and decelerated. Check engine light came on…. engine lost power to accelerate/maintain highway speed almost causing an accident.”
“I was happy to have a new RDX as a loaner vehicle since I plan to make that my next vehicle. But was soon disappointed to encounter the terribly designed infotainment system and touch pad. As much as I liked the rest of the vehicle features, it was so bad I am unlikely to purchase any Acura that uses it.”
“All software systems failed, disabling the vehicle. Error messages included failure in braking, steering, and other vital systems. Acura roadside assistance determined that the car had to be towed to the nearest dealer. The dealer confirmed the issue was a “DTC P061B PCM internal malfunction” and performed a “PGM-FI software update to correct the issue.” The vehicle was completely disabled, and we were 4 1/2 hours from the nearest dealership. There were no warnings or communications prior to the incident.”
RDX Defects and Your Rights
If your 2021 Acura RDX is still under the manufacturer’s original warranty and has a defect that significantly affects its value, use, or safety, it might be considered a lemon.
For this to happen, there typically needs to be a reasonable number of warranty repair attempts.
When you discover a defect, take your vehicle to an authorized manufacturer dealer for inspection and repair. If the problem isn’t fixed after a reasonable number of attempts, you can pursue a lemon law claim.
In most states, a vehicle is considered a lemon after a reasonable number of repairs, typically between two and four or if the vehicle is out of service for 30 or more days.
If the defect is dangerous, fewer attempts may be needed, but usually not less than two. Additionally, if your vehicle has been out of use for 30 days or more due to repairs, it may also be considered a lemon.
Keep all documentation and repair records as evidence that your vehicle underwent repair and is a lemon.
Once your vehicle qualifies as a lemon, you should consider starting a lemon law claim. Hiring a lemon law lawyer is highly beneficial as they can guide you through the process and represent you effectively, ensuring that you are justly compensated.
If you win your case, your attorney’s fees and costs will be paid for by the auto manufacturer in most states, making the legal representation cost-free for you.
Successful claims typically result in either a replacement vehicle or a refund. A replacement will be a similar make and model, usually a current year vehicle where the consumer is responsible for any difference in price.
A refund includes the reimbursement of all monies spent towards the purchase, such as the down payment, monthly payments, interest, taxes, and incidental expenses such as registration renewal fees, and rental car costs.
The manufacturer is usually allowed to deduct a usage fee for the time the vehicle was operational without issues causing it to be a lemon.
