2023 Kia Sorento Electrical System Problems

The 2023 Kia Sorento has encountered several reported issues with its electrical system. Common concerns among owners include problems with the center console controls, particularly the drive mode selector and heated steering wheel controls, which may not function properly.

Additionally, some drivers have experienced malfunctioning warning lights, which either fail to turn off or illuminate without cause.

Another issue affecting the electrical system is the keyless entry feature, which some users have found to be unreliable or nonfunctional.

Battery and charging problems have also been reported, with the vehicle occasionally displaying a “battery not fully charged” message, which can lead to unexpected stalling.

Lastly, there have been complaints about the infotainment system, which has been known to lose power or malfunction.

While these electrical issues can be frustrating, many are typically covered under warranty. If you’re experiencing any of these problems, make sure to reach out to an authorized dealer for assistance.

2023 Kia Sorento Body Hardware Problems

In August 2023, Kia issued a recall for certain Sorento, Sorento Hybrid, and Sorento Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) models due to a safety-related issue with the rearview camera.

The recall is identified as NHTSA Campaign Number 23V-610. The problem lies with the mounting clips for the rearview camera, which may break and cause the camera’s image to fail to display correctly on the vehicle’s screen.

This malfunction reduces the driver’s rear visibility, increasing the risk of a crash, especially when reversing.

As part of the remedy, Kia dealerships will inspect the rearview camera housing and replace it if necessary.

For additional information or assistance, Kia owners can contact customer service at 1-800-333-4542 and reference recall number SC280.

2023 Kia Sorento Paint & Trim Problems

Owners of the 2023 Kia Sorento have reported a variety of paint and trim-related issues. One of the most common concerns is with the vehicle’s paint, with several owners experiencing problems such as chalking, cracking, peeling, and fading.

These issues have been especially noticeable on parts of the vehicle like the rear passenger door handle. In addition to paint concerns, there have been complaints about the trim, particularly loose moldings on both the interior and exterior of the vehicle.

The trim pieces that run horizontally above and below the windows have been highlighted as especially prone to degradation over time.

Another cosmetic issue that has been noted is the deterioration of the shiny coating layer on plastic trim components, which is often caused by sun exposure.

While these paint and trim problems can be disappointing, they are typically covered under the warranty. If you’re experiencing any of these issues, it’s a good idea to reach out to your dealer for assistance.

2023 Kia Sorento Engine Problems

One of the most severe engine issues reported in the 2023 Kia Sorento is the need for engine rebuilds or replacements, with some vehicles experiencing major engine failures that required complete overhauls.

Additionally, some drivers have reported a complete loss of power while driving, often accompanied by warning lights on the dashboard, which can be alarming and dangerous.

Another common issue involves the engine control module (ECM), which has been known to malfunction, leading to loss of acceleration and the display of error messages on the dashboard.

Problems with the cylinder heads and head gaskets have also been reported, contributing to engine performance issues.

Additionally, some owners have faced problems with the timing chain or belt, which, if not addressed, could lead to serious engine damage.

Given the potential severity of these engine-related issues, many are covered under warranty. If you are experiencing any of these problems, it is essential to contact your dealer for support.

What Affected Owners Say

NHTSA Complaint

“From day one, there were issues. When it was delivered from the factory, it was discovered to be partly unpainted. This raised quality concerns. So far, the most serious has been that the motor blower failed at approximately 29,700 miles. This resulted in the vehicle filling with noxious fumes. It then had to be abandoned on the side of the highway. This led to a fire dispatch and later urgent care visits. Prior to towing, it was discovered that the AC was not working and the engine coolant reservoir was at ~ 1/4 of the minimum line. Ultimately, the vehicle was towed to King KIA. They held the vehicle for 2 weeks.”

NHTSA Complaint

“Twice while driving on the highway the engine power went off and all the safety lights flash and I could not accelerate. I was able to pull Over in neutral and restart the engine. When taken in for inspection, no problems were found. It happened again in June after the 7500 mile inspection on May 9th. This issue is life threatening as it could easily cause a fatal crash if I was not in the right lane, on flat ground, with a shoulder. There was no warning light.”

Cars.com Complaint

“You cannot lock the car from the inside when you’re in Park. You can program the car to lock when you put it into Drive. Or you can lock from the fob or the app once you’re outside of the car. I find it appalling and a very high safety risk especially for a single female that I cannot lock my door from the inside when I’m sitting parked in a parking lot. Super disappointed that the dealership did not inform me like this. Other observations: -very shiny inside and out, hope you don’t mind fingerprint smudges everywhere -for some reason I can’t get the seat right.”

What You Need to Know About Lemon Law Claims

If you’re dealing with ongoing issues in your 2023 Kia Sorento, you may qualify for protection under the lemon law.

This law is intended to assist consumers who purchase or lease vehicles that repeatedly fail to meet performance and quality standards while still under warranty.

If your 2023 Sorento has needed multiple repairs for the same or similar defect, and this issue impacts the vehicle’s safety, performance, or value, you may be entitled to remedies such as a refund, a replacement vehicle, or monetary compensation.

Lemon law remedies vary depending on your state, but typically include options like a full refund, a replacement vehicle, or cash compensation.

However, if you receive a refund, the manufacturer may deduct a fee based on the amount of time the vehicle was used without issues.

If you choose a replacement vehicle, be prepared to cover any price difference between your old vehicle and the new one.

In many instances, a successful lemon law claim also means the vehicle manufacturer will cover your legal fees and costs.

This provision makes it easier to seek a solution without the financial burden of hiring legal representation, providing an effective way to resolve ongoing problems with your 2023 Kia Sorento.
