2024 chevy trax problems

Common problems: Electrical system problems, engine problems, structural problems, and forward collision avoidance system issues. One recall has been issued for the 2024 Chevy Trax, which took place in November 2023 and was for the infotainment system screen being blank.

When buying a new car, consumers can become overwhelmed by the amount of information available online and on paper. It can be difficult to tell if a report from a consumer describes a one-off instance of something taking place or a more systematic issue with that model and make of car.

In this article, we will consolidate the information available online from platforms like the National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Cars.com, and the Kelley Blue Book. We will also go over how you can use the lemon law to be compensated for purchasing a defective but warrantied vehicle.

Common 2024 Chevy Trax Problems

  • Electrical System Problems: Infotainment system problems, frozen backup camera, flickering headlights, car takes a while to turn off
  • Engine Problems: Loss of engine power, oil leaks, combustion, explosive banging sound
  • Structural Problems: Doors not opening, windows not opening
  • Forward Collision Avoidance System Issues: Phantom braking, sensors reporting false obstacles

2024 Chevy Trax Electrical System Problems

Consumers reported a handful of electrical system problems in the 2024 Chevy Trax, some of which are more dangerous than others.

Most commonly mentioned by far were flickering headlights, followed by various infotainment system problems and the rearview camera either freezing or randomly turning on while driving.

Some consumers also mentioned the car taking a while to turn off even after the key was removed from the ignition, such that the radio would continue playing and the lights would continue to be on.

These electrical system issues may not be outright dangerous on their own but should still prompt a trip to an authorized dealer if they show up.

2024 Chevy Trax Engine Problems

Of the engine problems reported on the 2024 Chevy Trax, an unusually high number of them were total engine failures that resulted in ignition and often, a total loss of the vehicle.

Consumers mention hearing an explosive bang while driving and seeing smoke come from underneath the hood shortly thereafter. This is obviously a very dangerous defect for a car to contain, and so consumers should keep a watchful eye (and ear) on the engine of their 2024 Chevy Trax in order to stay safe.

2024 Chevy Trax Forward Collision Avoidance System Problems

The forward collision avoidance system is a system of sensors in a vehicle that, when working properly, detect obstacles in front of the vehicle and apply the brakes when needed to stop a collision.

Unfortunately, these sensors can be prone to error and false reports, which can cause the brakes to needlessly engage and potentially frighten the driver or others on the road.

Phantom braking from a faulty forward collision avoidance system may be avoided by turning the system off if possible, or seeking out a software update from an authorized dealer if one exists.

What 2024 Chevrolet Trax Owners Note

    2024 chevy trax complaints

“Ambient light sensor defective since vehicle was new. It would turn the lights on at dusk and back off at dawn but was confused by direct sunlight on sunny days. The the lights would switch from DRLs to headlights/taillights whenever direct sunlight hit the sensor and then immediately switch back to DRLs when any shadow crossed over the sensor causing the lights to flash. this causes other drivers to flash their lights back and can be very distracting. After replacement of the sensor, the problem went away.”

“While my son was driving at approximately 45 MPH, he observed smoke emanating from the engine compartment. He attempted to steer the vehicle off of the highway, the vehicle caught fire. The fire department extinguished the fire. It is unknown if there was a police report taken at that time. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard where it was diagnosed as totaled. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 6,455.”

“I preordered this vehicle in 2023 october. I received it everything was fine until the screen started messing up.Screen/radio will not turn off backup camera would stay on as I drove. Took it to the dealership and they did a system update. Secondly, Now the ac is not working keep in mind it is only 6 months old and is a new 2024. I took it again to the dealership and the evaporator seems to be the problem. It is now on backup order and waiting for it to be replaced. In my opinion I dont recommend this vehicle due to the problems it has already given me. I will soon get rid of it.”

Lemon Law Resolution for Your Chevy Trax

The lemon law process is designed to protect consumers who purchase or lease defective vehicles, often referred to as “lemons.” This process typically begins when a consumer identifies issues with their vehicle, which significantly impair its use, safety, or value.

These defects must occur within a specific timeframe or mileage limit, usually outlined by state law, based on the manufacturer’s warranty on the vehicle.

The first step in the lemon law process involves the consumer presenting their vehicle to be repaired. It’s crucial for the consumer to keep detailed records of all repair attempts, communications with the dealer or manufacturer, and any expenses incurred.

Most state laws require the consumer to present their vehicle for a reasonable number of attempts to fix the issue before it is considered a lemon. This number varies by state but generally ranges from two to four attempts. In some cases, if the defect poses a serious safety risk, fewer attempts may be required.

If the manufacturer cannot repair the defect within the allowed attempts, or if the vehicle is out of service for a cumulative total of 30 days or more within the first year or the warranty period, the vehicle may qualify as a lemon. At this point, the consumer can formally request a refund or replacement vehicle.

Hiring a lemon law attorney is recommended to have guidance from an expert.

If the case goes to court, the consumer must prove that the vehicle is a lemon under state law. Successful litigation will result in the consumer receiving a refund or replacement vehicle, as well as reimbursement for legal fees.

Throughout this process, it is often beneficial for consumers to consult with an attorney who specializes in lemon law to navigate the complex legal landscape and improve their chances of a favorable outcome.
