2024 Honda CR-V Steering Problems
The 2024 Honda CR-V has faced several reported issues with its steering system, raising concerns about driver safety.
Many owners have experienced sticky or stiff steering, particularly at highway speeds, making the vehicle harder to control.
Additionally, problems with the lane-keeping assist system have been noted, such as the steering wheel shaking or becoming difficult to manage when the system is active.
While Honda has issued recalls to address some of these concerns, delays in obtaining parts for repairs have frustrated some vehicle owners.
In one major investigation, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) opened an Engineering Analysis under Action Number EA23003 on November 29, 2023.
The investigation stemmed from complaints about momentary increases in steering effort, described as “sticky steering,” which often occur after prolonged driving at highway speeds.
The issue was linked to manufacturing defects in the worm gear and worm wheel within the steering gearbox.
Deformations in the worm wheel teeth and inconsistent grease application were identified as contributing factors. Honda issued Service Bulletin 23-037 in July 2023 to address this by replacing affected electronic power steering (EPS) gearboxes.
However, some drivers reported that dealerships could not recreate the issue or dismissed it as normal vehicle operation.
The investigation also expanded to include the 2024 Honda CR-V and other models, with NHTSA recording 13 crashes tied to this defect.
A related recall, NHTSA Campaign Number 24V-744, was issued on October 3, 2024. This recall affected over 1.6 million vehicles, including the 2024 Honda CR-V.
The recall cited incorrectly manufactured steering gearboxes that could cause excessive internal friction, leading to steering difficulties.
Honda’s remedy involves replacing the worm gear spring and redistributing or adding grease as necessary.
Owners were notified beginning November 18, 2024, and are encouraged to contact Honda Customer Service or visit NHTSA.gov for more information. We have previously written about the 2024 Honda Sticky Steering Recall here.
2024 Honda CR-V Fuel System Problems
Fuel system problems have been another recurring issue for the 2024 Honda CR-V. Some owners have reported instances of fuel spewing from the gas tank, often attributed to failures in the evaporative emissions control (EVAP) system.
Additionally, EVAP system malfunctions, such as vent valve failures, have caused broader fuel system issues.
2024 Honda CR-V Electrical System Problems
Electrical issues have been a source of frustration for many 2024 Honda CR-V owners. A common complaint involves the backup camera, which often displays in black and white instead of color, significantly reducing visibility, especially at night.
Other reported problems include malfunctions in various electrical components, such as the ignition system.
These issues have led to recalls, though some drivers have experienced delays in securing necessary parts for repairs.

Complaints from Affected CR-V Owners
“October 10, 2024 at about 1200 hours, the entire dashboard display and the upper center console display unexpectedly went black with no visible readout after having drivin 1-1/2 hours on the highway. Pulling off the road, we were able to reset the brightness to maximum and just able to see the readout. This event continued to be repeated several times during the course of the day. We had less than 9000 miles on the odometer at the time. I have checked the fuses, battery, and battery connections-all are in order. This event again repeated itself two weeks later on our return trip. In addition, the fuel gage has failed to fully up date on the display after being reset at the pump. I’m concerned about the possibility of the computer being the problem. We have less than 12,000 miles on the CRV Hybrid.”
“3 Check engine lights came on when my car was transitioning from electric to gas while I was sitting idle. I towed my brand new car (6500 miles) to the honda dealership and they diagnosed it as faulty fuel injectors, a bad spark plug, and a bad ignition coil. The dealer said this is a widespread issue and they have been servicing this type of issue very frequently.”
“I buy this vehicle in December 22, 2023 and from very first day having issues with front sensor. This is safety feature which stops working while you are driving. I feet this on my very first trip with 350km on the odometer. The outside weather conditions was clear but snow muddy so I thought may be the front sensor is getting dirt but Ben after cleaning, it keeps going off. This is the situation all the time I am on highway.”
Maximizing Lemon Law Benefits
