2024 Kia Sorento Electrical System Problems
The 2024 Kia Sorento has faced a few reported electrical system equipment issues that owners and potential buyers should be aware of.
One commonly mentioned problem involves defective thermostats. Faulty thermostats can disrupt the engine’s cooling system, potentially causing the engine to overheat if not addressed promptly.
Another issue commonly reported by drivers concerns the rear window motors. Some owners have experienced failures with these motors, which can render the rear windows inoperable and necessitate replacement. This problem, while inconvenient, is typically covered under warranty for most vehicles.
Additionally, there have been complaints about malfunctioning blend door actuators in the Sorento’s HVAC system.
These actuators are responsible for controlling airflow, and when they fail, they can lead to inconsistent cabin temperature control.
Although these issues are relatively minor, it’s a good idea for current or prospective Sorento owners to discuss them with their dealer.
Doing so ensures that any concerns can be addressed proactively, and any repairs needed may be handled under the vehicle’s warranty coverage.
2024 Kia Sorento Service Brakes Problems
The 2024 Kia Sorento has been linked to several concerning reports involving its service brakes. One significant issue involves instances of complete brake failure.
Some owners have reported situations where the brakes did not engage immediately while driving, accompanied by all dashboard warning lights illuminating simultaneously.
These incidents have created hazardous scenarios, requiring immediate attention.
Another alarming concern is the combination of warning lights activating on the dashboard along with brake performance issues.
In some cases, the brakes have failed to function properly, leading to dangerous situations such as near-misses with pedestrians.
This combination of warning signals and brake malfunctions highlights a serious safety risk for drivers and others on the road.
Given the severity of these problems, Sorento owners should address them as soon as they arise. If you own a Sorento or are considering purchasing one, discussing these issues with your dealer is essential.
Ensuring thorough inspections and any necessary repairs can help mitigate risks and improve overall safety.
2024 Kia Sorento Steering Problems
The 2024 Kia Sorento has been associated with several reported steering issues, ranging from minor annoyances to more serious safety concerns.
One significant problem involves power steering failure due to a misassembled motor-driven power steering (MDPS) wiring harness.
In affected vehicles, the harness may chafe against the steering shaft, leading to a loss of power steering assist.
This defect increases the risk of a crash and has prompted Kia to issue a recall for 95 Sorento vehicles under NHTSA Campaign Number 24V-287.
To address this issue, Kia dealers are inspecting and repairing or replacing the MDPS wiring harness as needed, free of charge.
Affected owners are encouraged to contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 for further assistance.
Kia drivers also have reported issues with a squeaky steering wheel, particularly noticeable in colder conditions.
While this issue is less severe, it can still be an inconvenience. If you own a Sorento or are considering purchasing one, it’s important to verify whether your vehicle is part of the recall and have it inspected by a Kia dealer.
Proactively addressing these concerns ensures your vehicle remains safe and functional.

2024 Kia Sorento Owner Experiences
“We purchased the car around Thanksgiving of last year (2023). A month and a half after purchase, we noticed all the warning lights coming on all at once. When we reported the incident and safety concern with the Kia dealership, they claimed it would be okay and we had nothing to worry about until our service appointment in Mid-March. Today, my wife was driving with my mom in the car and the brakes completely failed while they were driving on a major highway. Fortunately they were able to pull the car into an embankment before going down a large hill into the valley. We had the vehicle towed back to the Kia dealership where they’re running tests and diagnostics to identify the issue.”
“While utilizing cruise control on the PA Turnpike, the check engine light flashed on and the Sorento began to lose speed. The cruise control was attempting to compensate and pushing at 100% power, however the speed continued to decrease. We turned off cruise control and still were unable to increase speed. We were at 100% acceleration but lose 1 MPH every ~10 seconds or so. We pulled over and kept the vehicle running. Opened the hood and saw the engine shaking violently. We turned the car off – waited ~30 seconds and turned it back on. The vehicle operated fine afterwards and since. Dealers are unable to diagnose in a timely manner and are booking 1-3 months out – even further if you need a loaner vehicle.”
“My car has been in the shop multiple times in less than six months due to transmission issues. I do not feel safe driving this vehicle. I have tried filing a complaint with Kia and no one will get back to me. All the people at my local dealership are giving me the run around. Check engine light has been on this whole time. While driving it will get stuck and then my RMPS shoot up and then the car just takes off. When I put in reverse it sounds like the transmission is falling out of the hood. This car has been a nightmare.”
Resolution for Your Kia Sorento Lemon
If you’re experiencing persistent issues with your 2024 Kia Sorento, you may be eligible for protection under lemon law.
These laws are designed to support consumers who own or lease vehicles that fail to meet performance and quality standards despite being under warranty.
If your 2024 Sorento has required multiple repairs for the same or a similar defect, and the issue affects the vehicle’s safety, performance, or value, you could qualify for remedies such as a replacement vehicle, a refund, or monetary compensation.
Lemon law remedies can vary by state, but they generally include options like a full refund, a vehicle replacement, or cash compensation.
If a refund is issued, manufacturers may deduct a usage fee based on the amount of time the vehicle was first used without issues causing it to be a lemon.
For replacement vehicles, you may need to pay any price difference between your defective vehicle and the replacement as well as a usage fee.
In many cases, a successful lemon law claim also requires that the manufacturer pay for your legal fees and costs in pursuing the lemon law claim.
This provision removes the financial barrier of seeking legal help, making it easier to resolve ongoing issues with your 2024 Kia Sorento effectively.
