Attorney FAQ

Why did you become a lawyer?
Since I was little, I’ve always been outspoken and I love to stand up for others. I don’t hate to argue, either. I saw this as the one profession that was able to combine all of those skills and passions in a way that could really make an impact on people’s lives.

How long have you been practicing law?
I’ve been practicing law since 2014.

What sets you apart from other attorneys in your field?
I’ve been told often that my zealous style of advocacy is quite unique. I’m excited to bring that same passion for understanding my clients, and fire for championing their needs, to the firm to help them achieve the best possible result in their case.

Marisa is an associate attorney at Consumer Law Experts. Originally from Long Island, NY, she graduated magna cum laude from the University of Buffalo in 2010 before working in the nonprofit sector in Manhattan for a year, eventually applying to law school. She moved to California in 2011 to attend the University of San Diego School of Law, where she was on two nationally ranked moot court competition teams and graduated, then passed the bar, in 2014.

She started her career with a clerkship at the San Diego County District Attorney’s office, where she successfully tried a felony narcotics case before a jury. For about six months, she got a taste of Lemon Law at a firm in San Diego, before shifting back to nonprofit work in order to complete the requirements for the federal Public Service Loan Forgiveness program.

For the next nine years, Marisa worked for an organization in San Diego that provides representation to parents in juvenile dependency cases, helping them achieve safety and stability in order to reunify their families, or defending them against allegations of abuse or neglect. Juvenile dependency is a highly specialized, somewhat niche field, where attending court hearings daily and participating in several bench trials is required each month. Marisa loved being able to help families in need, while at the same time developing her negotiation and trial skills.

In her free time, she enjoys aerial yoga, stand-up paddle boarding, camping, and music festivals. She is also a huge dog lover and is constantly dog-sitting for friends and family or fostering for local rescues.
