The owner of a 2022 Rivian R1T purchased the electric pickup new and soon began encountering a variety of problems, many involving build quality, electronics, and software. Within the first few months, the vehicle developed fitment and sensor issues. The front trunk intermittently stopped opening, the power tonneau cover wouldn’t close properly through the touchscreen, and several body panels and seals required adjustment to correct misalignments and gaps. The charge port door also rubbed against the headlight, causing paint damage that needed repair.
After those early service visits, additional problems surfaced. The owner reported water entering through a front door seal, missing delivery items like the spare tire kit, and a crooked front license plate bracket; all of these defects were addressed through separate repair orders. Later, multiple software-related issues appeared: the heated steering wheel stopped working, the infotainment system froze, and Bluetooth connectivity failed intermittently. The dealer performed resets, wiring checks, and software updates to restore those features, but the problems tended to recur.
Over time, the R1T was also recalled for safety inspections related to the control arm fasteners, the front seat belt assembly, and the accelerator pedal. Mechanical and ride-quality concerns followed, including suspension noises, steering vibration at highway speeds, and a persistent “chattering” sound from the rear of the vehicle. At one point, the front subframe was replaced to eliminate a clicking noise during deceleration, and later visits involved rebalancing wheels, performing alignments, and tightening underbody panel bolts.
Despite numerous service visits spanning more than two years, the repair records show a pattern of recurring issues ranging from faulty sensors to drivetrain vibration and electronic malfunctions. The dealership performed extensive warranty work, software updates, and courtesy inspections, yet many of the same concerns resurfaced after each visit.
