The owners of a new 2024 Cadillac Lyriq faced persistent electrical and software problems shortly after receiving the vehicle. By approximately 3,000 miles, the passenger side ambient lighting was intermittently failing. Diagnostics revealed an internal fault in the passenger door’s ambient lighting system, necessitating replacement of the entire door panel assembly. After the replacement, the lighting issue was resolved.
Additional issues soon emerged, including intermittent unavailability of the rearview camera on the display. Although the dealer was unable to replicate the problem, they proactively updated the image processing module software.
Around 3,700 miles, the owners reported further electrical irregularities: ambient lighting failures under the passenger dashboard, the speedometer screen dimming or blanking when driving under bridges, and occasional malfunctions of steering wheel controls affecting Apple CarPlay media functions. A loud buzzing noise was reported once but did not recur. In response, the dealer performed extensive programming updates across multiple control modules, including the body control module, battery energy control module, and radio, aiming to address these software glitches.
At roughly 4,700 miles, ambient lighting failures expanded to include the passenger footwell and center console areas, often occurring simultaneously. Additionally, the main USB port in the front center console became inoperative. Despite multiple inspections and proper function tests with dealer-supplied cables, the USB issue could not be duplicated during diagnostics. The dealer completed further reprogramming of control modules and temporarily disabled the auto ambient lighting feature to mitigate the lighting inconsistencies.
Throughout all service visits, tire pressures were maintained per California regulations, and routine multi-point inspections were conducted. Despite extensive diagnostic efforts, repeated software updates, and hardware replacements, the vehicle’s electrical issues persisted, resulting in significant inconvenience and downtime.
