A 2022 GMC Sierra purchased new by its owner worked fine for about a year and a half before its engine refused to start and ultimately, was bought back by GMC. Even after extensive investigations and repairs by technicians, the vehicle was unable to be repaired and the consumer pursued a lemon law claim to get the compensation they deserved.
On top of the extensive repairs performed, the vehicle was under repair for almost 30 days where the owner could not use it at all. Other than the almost 30 days under repair, the vehicle’s failure to start stopped the owner from using it as intended when the vehicle was purchased.
When the vehicle was first taken in for repairs, the owner reported that the vehicle would not start despite the interior electronics of the vehicle turning on. The vehicle had to be towed to the dealership in order for the first inspection and repair to take place, since it would not turn on by itself. Technicians discovered a sizable cluster of problems ranging from engine module issues to body control modules being defective.
After verifying that all connections were secure and connected, the vehicle started back up. Still, the technicians were unable to identify what exactly was causing the starting problem in the vehicle. Despite multiple test drives, the problem remained concealed. The owner also informed technicians of a problem with the infotainment system where the screen would randomly turn off and reboot, but the cause of this issue could not be found either.
After three days of repairs, the vehicle was returned to the consumer and driven for about a month before problems crept back up. When the owner tried to start their vehicle, it would once again not start up and the infotainment screen would fail to boot. The owner let the vehicle sit and eventually got it to turn on, but the check engine light was on when it finally did. After more extensive repairs, the vehicle was in the shop for 22 more days. By the time it came out, the owner was ready for a functioning vehicle and contacted the Lemon Law Experts.
