A 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe was purchased by a customer in Southern California, with just 10,575 miles on the odometer from local Kia dealership. Shortly after the purchase, the vehicle began exhibiting multiple problems, which required several service visits at a Hyundai dealership in Nevada. The first issue arose when the owner noticed excessive shaking and vibration while braking.

A technician discovered that the rotors were warped, and after resurfacing them, the problem was temporarily resolved. However, a new issue emerged concerning poor fuel economy, with the vehicle only achieving 19 mpg. The service team determined that this was within normal limits at the time.

A little down the line, additional concerns were raised, including a cracked rear panel, malfunctioning key fob, and problems with the driver’s door intermittently failing to open. Despite a multi-point inspection, no significant issues were found. About one month later, the vehicle returned to the service center with new problems, including malfunctioning seat AC, a transmission shuddering during acceleration, and brake pulsation despite previous rotor resurfacing.

The service team replaced the front rotors, but the brake pulsation persisted. Additionally, the wireless phone charger was found to be malfunctioning due to foreign material in the charging holder.

Not too long after the last incident, the vehicle needed another inspection due to ongoing issues. The front passenger door handle was not functioning, and the lane-keeping assist system remained active despite attempts to deactivate it. A dirty air filter was replaced, but the fuel economy remained low.

The wireless phone charger again malfunctioned, and the charging module was replaced after further inspection. During a visit one month later, a check engine light illuminated, prompting a diagnosis of a cooling system performance issue. The thermostat was replaced, and the cooling system was serviced.

Despite numerous repairs and parts replacements, the vehicle continued to experience recurring issues related to fuel economy, door handle functionality, and electrical components. These ongoing, unresolved defects made the vehicle a candidate for California’s lemon law. With the assistance of the Lemon Law Experts, the owner successfully pursued a repurchase of the defective vehicle by Hyundai.
