Successful Lemon Law Results for brand-new 2022 Harley Davidson FLHRXS / Road King that Spent over 80 days at Dealership for Repairs

A brand-new 2022 Harley-Davidson FLHRXS / Road King Special was purchased with only 7 miles on the odometer. Although the motorcycle initially met performance expectations, it soon began experiencing a series of electrical malfunctions, lighting failures, and drivetrain concerns—prompting multiple service visits and eventually leading to a lemon law claim under California’s Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act.

The first warning sign emerged just 317 miles after purchase, when the windshield detached while riding, prompting immediate replacement and a full inspection of fasteners and fairing mounts. As mileage increased, further problems surfaced. Several months after purchase, the red security light began illuminating intermittently, and technicians diagnosed faulty rear brake pads, which were replaced along with a complete 5,000-mile service.

At a little over 10,000 miles, Harley-Davidson performed a recall repair and replaced the front and rear tires, noting paint damage on the saddlebag lids and recommending brake pad replacement due to wear.

However, the most persistent issues involved the electrical system and BCM (Body Control Module) warning lights. The owner reported that the rear lights would cut out and the TPMS warning light remained active despite correcting tire pressure. Technicians discovered a damaged wire in the handlebar harness, which they repaired. Yet, the problems continued.

The owner returned multiple times with complaints of the BCM light reappearing, inoperative front running lights, and turn signal failures after riding for prolonged periods. Harley-Davidson’s service teams, after repeated diagnostics and escalating the issue to tech support, disassembled and inspected all major harnesses—including the main, signal, and handlebar harnesses—but found no damage. Despite retaping and reassembling, the problems continued to intermittently reappear.

Compounding the electrical issues, the motorcycle also experienced a burnt clutch, preventing it from shifting into neutral. While repairs were initially declined, the clutch plate replacement was later authorized. The motorcycle was test ridden and temporarily returned to working order, but the electrical instability returned again that same month during a service visit at El Patron Harley-Davidson.

There, technicians confirmed that the left turn signal running light was overloading the BSM (Body Control Module), causing a system-wide lighting shutdown. No digital tech codes were present.

After less than 20,000 miles of recurring issues—mostly tied to the electrical system and lighting—Harley-Davidson was unable to provide a permanent fix under warranty. These persistent concerns impaired the bike’s reliability and safety, qualifying it as a “lemon” under California law.

With the support of the Lemon Law Experts, a legal claim was filed and ultimately resolved against Harley-Davidson, Inc. The matter was settled to the owner’s satisfaction, including the payment of their legal fees and costs.
