A new 2022 Nissan Frontier, purchased with just 59 miles on the odometer, quickly became the subject of repeated service visits due to a series of mechanical and electrical issues. Serviced exclusively at Nissan of Elk Grove in California, the vehicle presented an escalating pattern of problems that ultimately led to a buyback under California’s lemon law.

Early service visits addressed a notable Nissan recall involving the transmission’s park pawl and included reprogramming of the transmission control module. Though the vehicle initially passed inspection, concerns began to mount. The front passenger window was slow to close and occasionally stuck—an issue that was briefly resolved with cleaning and lubrication, only to return just days later.

As time went on, additional electronic failures began to surface. The collision warning light intermittently activated, and the audio system would lag or shut off randomly. While technicians confirmed a fault in the audio unit and recommended replacement, some concerns—like the recurring window issue—remained unconfirmed despite multiple attempts to address them.

The vehicle later began to exhibit more serious performance issues, including harsh shifting, erratic RPM fluctuations, and sudden activation of crash warning lights. A road test verified transmission judder, prompting a full transmission replacement and recalibration. Although this temporarily resolved some of the drivability issues, new complaints soon followed.

The vehicle was eventually returned with troubling symptoms, including the dashboard display blacking out, more RPM fluctuations at highway speeds, random ABS and crash warning lights, loud noises during acceleration, and improper emergency braking activation. Despite a ten-mile road test, technicians were unable to replicate several of the reported problems.

After numerous visits for unresolved electrical, safety, and transmission issues, the vehicle was determined to be unfit for continued use. Given the extensive history of repairs and unresolved issues, the vehicle was deemed legally eligible for a buyback under California’s lemon law. After engaging the assistance of the Lemon Law Experts, a successful buyback agreement was negotiated with Nissan North America. The client received a full refund for the defective vehicle, as well as reimbursement for legal fees and expenses.
