Our clients purchased a new 2023 Audi S3 on June 24, 2023, with high expectations for their luxury vehicle. Their experience was plagued by persistent issues with the car’s MMI (Multi Media Interface) system. The vehicle was taken to an authorized Audi dealership for multiple repair attempts, but the problems persisted, leading to significant frustration and inconvenience.
Just two weeks after purchase, the Audi S3 was brought in for service due to the MMI screen being stuck on the loading screen, an intermittent SOS warning message, and issues selecting the user profile on startup.
The dealership attempted to resolve these problems by performing a reset to the MMI, advising the client to remove any emojis from their phone, and replacing the driver’s side seat belt buckle switch. Despite these efforts, the issues were not permanently fixed.
Soon thereafter, the vehicle was back at an authorized Audi dealership again for a prolonged service period lasting about two months. This time, the MMI system continued to have long loading times, sometimes taking up to three minutes to initialize. The dealership performed extensive diagnostics, including checking connections and performing a capacitance discharge, but the problem persisted.
They opened a TAC case and decided to replace the J794 MMI computer module, which was backordered from Germany.
Despite extensive repair attempts, the MMI system’s issues remained unresolved. Over the course of these visits, the Audi S3 spent a total of 118 days at the dealership.
Despite multiple repair attempts and prolonged service times, the 2023 Audi S3 experienced persistent issues with its MMI system, including extended loading times and intermittent warning messages.
These issues were not resolved despite replacing the central computer module and performing numerous diagnostics and resets. Given the vehicle’s extended time in the shop (totaling 118 days), it met the criteria for a “lemon” under the California Lemon Law.
Frustrated by the ongoing problems and significant downtime, our clients decided it was time to get legal help. The Lemon Law Experts successfully negotiated a settlement with Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. As a result, the clients received a lemon law repurchase and the payment of their legal fees and costs.
