Nearly 150,000 Ford Broncos Recalled for Shock Absorber Issues
An estimated 30%, or around 44,834, of nearly 150,000 Ford Broncos from 2021 to 2024 may experience issues with faulty rear shock absorbers.
This recall affects Bronco Badlands models and those with the Sasquatch package, which feature rear dampers with remote reservoirs prone to corrosion.
The corrosion can cause the external reservoir to detach, potentially creating road hazards and increasing the risk of a crash.
Ford is working on a solution for the 2025 Ford Bronco Shock Absorber Recall and will notify affected owners in early February with instructions on how to address the problem.

What Causes the Ford Bronco Suspension Problem?
The Ford Bronco’s suspension issue is caused by corrosion in the rear shock absorbers due to the long-flange design of the rear dampers.
This design makes the area between the external reservoir, mounting flange, and damper body vulnerable to corrosion.
Over time, corrosion buildup can create pressure that weakens the welds and surface material, potentially causing the reservoir tube to separate from the damper body.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) launched an investigation in October 2024 after receiving four complaints from Bronco owners, three of whom reported that the external reservoirs detached.
Ford followed with its own investigation in November and identified the long-flange design as the issue.
To address this, the company switched to a short-flange damper, which has shown greater resistance to corrosion.
This issue affects Ford Bronco Badlands and Sasquatch models from the 2021 to 2024 model years.
Drivers may experience a bouncy ride, unusual noises, or leaking fluid near the rear wheels before the reservoir detaches.
Ford is currently working on a fix and will notify affected owners once a solution is available.
Ford’s internal investigation confirmed that long-flange shock absorbers were more prone to crevice corrosion than the short-flange design.
The company transitioned to short-flange assemblies on May 1, 2024, for Badlands models and on July 23, 2024, for Sasquatch-equipped vehicles to improve durability.
As of December 11, 2024, Ford has recorded 551 warranty claims, one field report, and two customer complaints related to this problem.
