Ford and Lincoln are issuing a recall for a backup camera issue that affects 2% or 1,800 of the 90,000 recalled vehicles. The recall affects Super Duty trucks, Expedition SUVs, and Lincoln Corsair crossovers.
The 2025 Ford Super Duty Backup Camera defect may cause the display to show a blank, fuzzy, flashing, or inverted image, significantly reducing visibility when reversing and increasing the risk of an accident.
A permanent fix has not yet been announced by Ford. Owners will likely need to visit a Ford or Lincoln dealership for a free repair once a solution becomes available. Ford is expected to notify vehicle owners by mail in the coming weeks.

Which Ford and Lincoln Models Are Included?
This recall affects several Ford and Lincoln models equipped with defective rearview cameras that may display a blank or distorted image, increasing the risk of a crash. The affected vehicles include:
- 2021 Ford Expedition
- 2021-2022 Ford Super Duty trucks (F-250, F-350, F-450, F-550, and F-600)
- 2020-2022 Lincoln Corsair
If you own one of these models, Ford should notify you soon regarding the recall. According to documents submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), no crashes or injuries have been reported in connection with this issue.
Ford and Lincoln have recently issued multiple recalls for backup camera failures, affecting models such as the Ford Bronco, Edge, Explorer, Mustang, and the Lincoln Aviator, Corsair, and Navigator.
What’s Wrong with My Ford Backup Camera?
If your Ford backup camera is displaying a blank, fuzzy, flashing, or inverted image, it may be affected by a known defect that makes it unreliable when reversing. This issue significantly reduces visibility and increases the risk of a crash.
Ford is still investigating the root cause of the problem and has not yet issued a permanent fix. However, based on prior repairs, the automaker believes the defect is linked to the camera itself, which is supplied by Magna. The affected camera part numbers include:
- NL1T-19G490-AB (Ford Expedition)
- HC3T-19G490-BC (Ford Super Duty)
- LJ7T-19G490-AE (Lincoln Corsair)
From October through December 2024, Ford conducted a detailed analysis, comparing these affected vehicles to others using similar Magna-supplied cameras.
The review examined factors such as attachment points, wiring, SYNC software, and the Accessory Protocol Interface Module (APIM) but did not identify any additional contributing factors.
Despite this, statistical analysis confirmed a significant difference in failure rates among affected vehicles, even though the exact cause remains undetermined.
As of January 17, 2025, Ford has received six Vehicle Owner Questionnaires (VOQs) related to this issue, but no reports of crashes or injuries.
On January 24, 2025, Ford’s Field Review Committee approved a recall for affected models. An amendment on February 7, 2025, expanded the recall to include 2021–2022 Super Duty trucks (F-250, F-350, F-450, F-550, and F-600) equipped with a rearview camera and prep kit.
If you own an affected vehicle, Ford will notify you once a solution is available. In the meantime, be extra cautious when reversing and use other methods, such as checking mirrors and surroundings, to ensure safety.

How Will Ford Rectify This Issue?
Ford plans to resolve the backup camera defect by releasing a module software update. Once the update is available, affected vehicle owners will receive a notification by mail.
Some dealerships may also offer complimentary pickup and delivery services to make the repair process more convenient.
