1% or approximately 2,590 of the 259,033 recalled vehicles may experience issues related to the brake pedal defect.
Honda has recalled nearly 260,000 vehicles in the U.S. because of a manufacturing flaw that could increase the risk of a crash.
The recall covers the 2021–2025 Acura TLX, 2023–2025 Acura MDX, and 2023–2025 Honda Pilot models.
The 2025 Honda and Acura Brake Pedal problem is caused by a brake pedal pivot pin that was not properly secured during production.
This can cause the brake pedal to shift sideways, potentially making it difficult or impossible to stop the vehicle safely.
This defect arose during a production transition from a U.S. plant to a facility in Mexico.
Due to insufficient training and a disabled QR code scanning system, the step to properly stake the pivot pin was missed, allowing defective pedals to be installed.

What Honda and Acura Owners Should Know About the Brake Pedal Defect
A manufacturing defect in the brake pedal assembly may cause the pedal to shift out of position or malfunction, increasing the risk of a crash.
This issue is due to a missing or improperly installed pivot pin that secures the brake pedal.
The affected vehicles include the 2021–2025 Acura TLX, 2023–2025 Acura MDX, and 2023–2025 Honda Pilot. Approximately 259,033 vehicles in the U.S. are impacted. Warning signs to watch for include:
- Brake warning light on the dashboard
- Brake pedal that feels loose, misaligned, or unstable
- Brake lights staying on even when the pedal isn’t pressed
- Difficulty stopping the vehicle
How to Tell If Your Vehicle Is Affected
Affected Acura and Honda models are:
- Acura TLX (2021–2025)
- Acura MDX (2023–2025)
- Honda Pilot (2023–2025)
The issue stems from a manufacturing error where the brake pedal pivot pin was not properly secured, which can cause the pedal to shift and potentially prevent safe stopping. To check if your vehicle is included:
- Find your VIN (Vehicle Identification Number):
This 17-character code can be found on your driver’s side dashboard (visible through the windshield), inside the driver’s side door frame, or on your vehicle registration and insurance documents. - Visit the official recall lookup websites:
- Honda Recall Lookup
- Acura Recall Lookup
- Enter your VIN:
The system will confirm if your vehicle is part of the recall and provide guidance on what to do next.

Free Inspection & Repair – Here’s What You Need to Know
If your Honda or Acura is included in the brake pedal recall, you’re entitled to a free inspection and repair.
This means your dealer will check your brake pedal assembly and, if the problem is found, replace it — all at no cost to you. That includes parts, labor, and any related services.
Recall letters will start arriving in the mail on July 28, 2025. But don’t wait to find out if your vehicle is affected.
You can check your status now by entering your VIN on the official Honda or Acura recall websites, then schedule your appointment at a dealership near you.
If you’ve already paid for a repair related to this issue, keep your receipts and service documents — you could qualify for reimbursement.
Contact Honda or Acura customer service for details on how to submit your claim or consider a lemon law claim if your Acura or Honda has ongoing issues.
What to Do If Your Brake Problems Continue
If brake problems continue in your Honda or Acura after your recall repair—or if you experience symptoms before being serviced—stop driving immediately if it feels unsafe.
Pull over safely and do not drive until the issue has been assessed. Contact the dealership that performed your recall service right away, explain the problem, and request a follow-up inspection. Repairs related to the recall should still be free.
Be sure to document every service visit, including dates, a description of the problem, and what work was done. Photos or videos of the issue can also be useful if you can safely capture them.
If the dealership does not resolve the problem, escalate the issue by contacting Honda or Acura customer service at 1-888-234-2138 or filing a complaint with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) at nhtsa.gov/recalls or by calling 1-888-327-4236.
If your vehicle is unsafe to drive, ask the dealership about the possibility of a loaner vehicle or shuttle service while your car is in the shop.
Each state has its own requirements regarding recalls and consumer protections, so it’s important to take timely and well-documented action if brake problems persist after your recall repair.
If your Honda or Acura continues to feel unsafe or unreliable due to this brake pedal defect, consulting with a legal professional experienced in vehicle defects and lemon law may be a valuable step toward resolving the issue.
