Jeep 4xe Recall Over Fire Risk
  • Stellantis has recalled more than 320,000 Jeep Wrangler and Grand Cherokee 4xe SUVs for a fire risk linked to the vehicles’ high-voltage battery packs.
  • This is the third recall for the same battery fire issue, indicating that the previous two solutions in 2023 and 2024 failed to resolve the underlying defect.
  • As of November 11, 2025, Stellantis has not released a permanent remedy for the 4xe fire risk problem, but you may have other legal options.

Stellantis has announced a safety recall impacting 320,065 plug-in hybrid SUVs in the United States. The affected vehicles include certain Jeep Wrangler 4xe and Grand Cherokee 4xe models.

This recall is listed under NHTSA Campaign Number 25V-741 and involves a potential fire risk associated with the vehicles’ high-voltage battery packs.

Roughly 5% of the recalled vehicles, or about 16,003 units, are believed to have the defect. Some of these SUVs may experience a fire even when parked and turned off, which has led Jeep to advise owners to park outdoors and away from structures until repairs are completed.

What Is Causing the 2025 Jeep 4xe Recall?

Answer Capsule: Defective Samsung SDI high-voltage batteries can develop internal cell damage, causing short circuits, overheating, and fires, even when the Jeep 4xe is parked and off.

The issue stems from an internal failure within the high-voltage battery packs that power certain Jeep 4xe vehicles.

These batteries, supplied by Samsung SDI, may contain damage to the internal cell separator. When the separator is compromised, the anode and cathode can come into contact, creating a short circuit and generating excessive heat inside the battery pack. This condition can lead to a fire, even if the vehicle is turned off and not charging.

Stellantis is aware of 19 vehicle fires and one injury that may be connected to this condition. Most of the incidents occurred while the vehicles were parked and powered down.

To reduce the risk of additional fires, Jeep has instructed owners to park their vehicles outside, away from structures, and to stop charging them until a final remedy becomes available.

Which Jeep 4xe Models Are Affected?

The following vehicles are included in this recall:

  • 2021–2025 Jeep Wrangler 4xe
  • 2022–2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe

Affected vehicles were produced between July 1, 2020, and October 15, 2025.

Have There Been Similar 4xe Recalls Before?

Yes, Jeep’s plug-in hybrid SUVs have been recalled for similar fire risks in the past. For some models, this is the third time they are being recalled for high-voltage battery problems.

2023 Jeep 4xe Recall

NHTSA Campaign Number 23V-787 covered 32,125 Wrangler 4xe SUVs with defective battery packs. The problem involved internal failures that could result in a fire even when the vehicle was parked.

Jeep dealers were instructed to update the hybrid control system software and replace battery packs when necessary. This recall was later replaced by the following recall in 2024.

2024 Jeep 4xe Recall

A year later, NHTSA Campaign Number 24V-720 expanded the recall to 154,032 vehicles. The issue again involved the high-voltage battery, which could short circuit internally and ignite while parked or charging.

Dealers were instructed to install an update to the Battery Management System to detect early warning signs of failure and deactivate the defective battery module.

Despite these efforts, additional fires were reported, leading to the most recent 2025 recall. There have also been several class action lawsuits.

Does Stellantis Have a Solution for this Problem?

Short answer: As of November 2025, Jeep is still working on a remedy and it is not yet available.

As of November 2025, a final remedy is still under development, and the company has not yet announced when replacement parts or repairs will become available. Once a solution is ready, Jeep dealers will complete the repair free of charge.

Until then, Stellantis advises owners to park their vehicles outside, away from buildings, and to avoid charging them to reduce the risk of fire.

What Steps Should I Take If My Vehicle Is Affected?

  1. Take Precautions Before the Recall Repair is Performed: Park your vehicle outside and avoid plugging in the charger until Jeep announces the remedy.
  2. Wait for the Recall Notification Letter: Jeep will send initial letters explaining the recall and providing instructions on how to proceed.
  3. Schedule Your Recall Repair Once Notified: After receiving the final recall notice, contact an authorized Jeep dealership to arrange a service appointment.
  4. Bring Your Vehicle in for the Repair: Jeep will perform the necessary work at no cost to you.
  5. Monitor Your Vehicle After the Repair: Keep an eye out for any warning indicators, smoke, or unusual smells, and maintain records of all service visits and communications with your dealer.
  6. Consider Your Legal Options: If you continue to experience issues after repairs or if your vehicle spends excessive time in the shop, you may be entitled to relief under your state’s lemon law.

What Are My Legal Options for Repeat Jeep 4xe Problems?

Owners who continue to experience repeated electrical or battery issues with their Jeep 4xe may qualify for remedies under state or federal lemon laws.

These laws were enacted to hold manufacturers accountable for any defective products placed in the marketplace.

Depending on the circumstances, you could be eligible for a refund, a replacement vehicle, or a cash settlement.

Manufacturers are typically responsible for paying the consumer’s legal fees if the claim is successful, which allows consumers to pursue lemon law cases without out-of-pocket costs. Here are some examples of settlements we’ve been able to obtain for Jeep 4xe owners with repeat warranty issues:

Affected VehicleAverage Lemon Law Settlement
Jeep Wrangler 4xe$100,487
Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe$120,205
