Jeep owners are reporting that their forward collision avoidance systems are not working as they should.
Some drivers say the system fails to engage when needed, while others experience constant warning lights indicating the feature is disabled even when it shouldn’t be.
These malfunctions leave drivers unsure whether their vehicle’s safety system is active — a serious concern given the importance of forward collision avoidance in preventing accidents.
As complaints grow, individual Jeep owners have begun filing lawsuits against the automaker, claiming they were sold defective vehicles. If the problem continues to spread, a class action or recall could follow.

Which Jeep Vehicles Report Forward Collision Warning Failures
According to reports from current Jeep owners, this problem mainly impacts 2021-2025 Jeep Cherokee and Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles.
Since no class action lawsuit has been filed and no recall is currently taking place, it is difficult to determine specifically which vehicles and years are having the most problems.
Additionally, there are a couple of technical service bulletins that include the 2022-2024 Jeep Compass and Jeep Renegade, indicating that they may also experience FCW issues.
Another service bulletin mentions the 2022-2025 Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer also being impacted.
As more reports come from consumers, more information will be available on which vehicles exactly are impacted.
Common FCW Malfunctions Owners Are Experiencing
Many Jeep owners have shared that their Forward Collision Warning (FCW) systems are not operating as intended.
These issues range from persistent error messages to the system completely failing to activate when needed. Below are the most frequently reported malfunctions:
- System doesn’t activate when needed: Drivers report situations where the forward collision warning or automatic emergency braking system fails to intervene or warn.
- False / unintended braking or sudden activation: Some owners say their vehicle brakes or issues warnings unexpectedly, even when no threat is present.
- “FCW OFF / system unavailable” indicator that persists: The FCW “OFF” light or a “system unavailable” message stays on constantly, leaving drivers unsure whether the system is operable.
Overall, these malfunctions highlight a growing concern among Jeep owners about the reliability of the FCW system.
As reports continue to emerge, many owners are urging Jeep to take action to ensure these safety systems function as intended.

Are There Any Recalls or Technical Bulletins for Jeep FCW Issues?
While there are no official recallsfor Jeep’s Forward Collision Warning (FCW) system, severaltechnical service bulletins (TSBs)acknowledge related problems.
- S2108000249-REV-C notes that after software updates or servicing, settings like language and temperature units may reset, sometimes causing the FCW or Pedestrian Emergency Braking (PEB) lights to turn on without diagnostic codes. Technicians are instructed not to replace parts, but to reset the software settings instead.
- 08-042-23 Rev. A addresses “FCW unavailable” messages caused by Forward Facing Camera Module (FFCM) faults, directing dealers to inspect and replace the camera if necessary.
- 08-207-24 explains that the FCW warning light may appear with no stored trouble codes due to a software issue in the instrument cluster, fixed through a reprogramming update.
These TSBs indicate that Jeep views many FCW complaints as software or calibration issues rather than hardware defects. However, no recall has been issued, and no timeline for one has been confirmed.
Is a Class Action Lawsuit Already Underway?
As of October 2025, no class action lawsuit has been filed against Jeep for their defective forward collision avoidance systems.
While individual consumers might be filing lemon lawsuits against Jeep, a class action lawsuit often takes more time and evidence than an individual claim. For that reason, it may still take some time before a recall is announced.
Steps to Take If Your FCW System Keeps Failing
A malfunctioning Forward Collision Warning (FCW) system can compromise your safety and peace of mind. If your Jeep’s FCW keeps failing or showing false alerts, you don’t have to accept it. Here’s what to do.
- Keep detailed records: Each time the system malfunctions, note the date, mileage, and what happened. Save every repair order, invoice, and dealership communication. Strong documentation shows that the issue is recurring and that you’ve given the manufacturer opportunities to fix it.
- Visit an authorized dealer: Take your vehicle to an authorized dealership for diagnosis and repair. Clearly describe the FCW issue—whether it’s false braking, error messages, or total failure—and make sure it’s written accurately on the repair order.
- Track repair time: Record how long your vehicle stays in the shop. Extended or repeated repairs can indicate a serious defect that affects safety and reliability.
- Follow up in writing: If the problem continues after multiple repair attempts, send written notice to the manufacturer. Include copies of your service records and request a resolution. Keeping this communication documented strengthens your position.
- Consult a lemon law attorney: If the issue persists despite several repair attempts or long repair times, you may qualify for relief under your state’s consumer protection laws. An experienced attorney can guide you through the process and help you pursue a refund, replacement, or cash compensation.
