BMW has announced the recall of model year 2009 BMW diesel powered X5 crossover vehicles manufactured from October 1, 2008 through June 12, 2009 to remedy problems with fuel heaters. These fuel heaters are used to heat fuel in these vehicles on colder days.
Currently the fuel heating system in these BMW crossovers is faulty which could cause the fuel heater to remain on and thereby drain the battery in these vehicles. A bigger concern is that these fuel heaters will remain on causing the system to overheat and possibly cause a fire. There have been no reported fires with these BMW Diesel X5s.
BMW has announced that they will begin the recall for these BMW crossovers in October 2011, and by taking these vehicles to a local authorized BMW dealership BMW will replace the fuel filter heater system for these BMW crossovers free of charge. Given that winter is upcoming soon and the weather in parts of the county has already started to chill, upon receipt of the recall notice do not delay in getting this repair handled.
