URGENT BMW Recall!!! If You Own/Ride a BMW S1000, Please Read…
BMW of North America is recalling approximately 1,400 certain 2012 S1000 RR sportbikes. The high performance engines in the affected bikes can suddenly fail, which can result in catastrophic consequences for the rider.
BMW announced that the recall is the result of a manufacturing defect whereby the connecting rod bolts can become loose during high engine temperatures and/or high engine operating speeds. This defect can result in catastrophic engine damage and escaping oil. If this happens, the engine can suddenly fail and the spilled oil can cause a complete loss of handling control thereby increasing the risk and severity of a crash.
The recall affects 2012 BMW S1000s that were manufactured between September 1, 2011 and April 10, 2012. BMW stated that they will be notifying owners of the recall and that local BMW serviced departments will perform the necessary repair work free of charge.
If you own a 2012 BMW S1000, check your manufacture date immediately! If you own one of the affected bikes, you should take your bike for the necessary repair work prior to operating it.
If you have experienced problems with the connecting rods with your lemon BMW S1000 and you have presented your sportbike for repair attempts for this issue, you may have a lemon and be entitled to compensation.
