rivian turn signal recall

Roughly 167, or 0.6%, of the 27,882 recalled Rivian vehicles have reported issues related to the front turn signals.

Rivian has issued this 2025 Rivian R1S and R1T Recall for its 2025 R1S and R1T models due to a defect in the front turn signal lamps that may cause them to fail during operation, potentially affecting vehicle safety.

The recall affects R1S models built between April 29, 2024, and May 13, 2025, and R1T models built between July 10, 2024, and May 13, 2025.

Drivers of affected vehicles may notice dashboard warning lights, faster blinking of the remaining turn signals, and an accelerated clicking sound, all indicating the defect.

What’s Wrong with the Rivian Turn Signals?

The issue with the Rivian turn signals is caused by a manufacturing defect in the front turn signal assemblies, which can lead to intermittent or complete failure.

These assemblies, produced by Myotek, may experience internal component failures that prevent the turn signals from illuminating or flashing properly.

This defect violates Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 108, which sets requirements for vehicle lighting and reflective devices.

The failure of turn signals is a serious safety concern because it reduces the vehicle’s visibility to other drivers, increasing the risk of accidents, especially during lane changes or turns.

The root cause of the defect is still being investigated but appears related to degradation or failure of components within the signal housing.

Potential causes include moisture intrusion, electrical issues, or material fatigue affecting the assembly.

How Drivers May Discover the Issue

Drivers can become aware of the Rivian turn signal problem through various visual, auditory, and system-based signals. Here are some common ways it may present:

  1. Dashboard Warning Light
The vehicle’s onboard diagnostics system may detect the malfunction and trigger a warning icon on the dashboard. This is often the first sign that something is wrong.
  2. Faster Blinking Sound
If one of the front turn signals fails, the remaining signal will blink faster than usual. The clicking sound inside the cabin will also speed up, similar to traditional bulb-out warnings.
  3. Visual Inspection
Drivers may notice that one or both front turn signals are not flashing when activated. This can be confirmed by observing the external lights while the turn signal is on.
  4. Notification via Rivian Mobile App
Rivian’s connected vehicle system may send a notification to the driver’s mobile app if a fault is detected.

How To Get the Free Remedy

If your Rivian is affected by the turn signal recall, the first step is to check whether your vehicle is included.

You can do this by visiting the NHTSA Recall Lookup Tool or Rivian’s official recall page and entering your 17-digit Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).

Once confirmed, wait for the official notification from Rivian, which will begin being sent to owners starting July 25, 2025.

If your contact information is up to date, you should receive a letter or an alert through the Rivian app.

When you receive the notification, schedule a service appointment either through the Rivian mobile app or by contacting Rivian Customer Support.

You’ll be able to choose between a mobile service visit, where a technician comes to your location, or visiting a Rivian service center.

During the appointment, Rivian will inspect and replace the faulty front turn signal assemblies at no cost to you.

After the repair is complete, be sure to keep a copy of the service invoice for your records, even though the repair is provided free of charge.

What To Do If the Recall Fix Doesn’t Solve the Issue

If the recall repair for your Rivian’s turn signal problem does not fix the issue, it’s important to take further action.

Start by contacting Rivian Service immediately, either through the Rivian app or by calling Customer Support. Be sure to inform them that the repair was performed under Recall 25V387 but that the problem continues.

Next, document the ongoing issue by taking photos or videos of the malfunctioning turn signals. Also, note any dashboard warning lights, unusual blinking patterns, or audible alerts. Keep a detailed record of your service history, including the recall repair.

Request a follow-up inspection at a Rivian service center, and if the problem remains unresolved, ask to escalate the issue to a regional service manager or Rivian’s corporate support team.

Should Rivian be unable to satisfactorily address your concerns, you can file a complaint with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) via their website. This helps regulators monitor unresolved safety problems and may lead to further investigation.

Additionally, check if there are any Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) issued by Rivian that apply to your vehicle.

These bulletins address known issues that don’t rise to the level of a full recall. You can ask Rivian if any TSBs are relevant to your vehicle’s VIN.

Don’t Wait Until It’s Too Late–Protect Your Rights Now!

Recalls involving Rivian vehicles highlight critical safety concerns that owners should not ignore.

If your Rivian R1S or R1T has been repeatedly serviced for turn signal failures or related electrical defects while under warranty, you may be eligible for protection under your state’s lemon law.

Qualifying owners could receive a refund, a replacement vehicle, or financial compensation. Refunds and replacements usually factor in a usage deduction based on mileage before the defect occurred.

Additionally, if a replacement vehicle is more expensive, price adjustments may apply. Many state lemon laws also require manufacturers to cover your attorney’s fees and legal costs when your claim is successful, meaning you can pursue your rights without upfront expenses.
