2024 Tesla Cybertruck Recalls
The 2024 Tesla Cybertruck may be impacted by any or all of at least seven recalls by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Please note that some of these recalls apply to all Cybertruck vehicles manufactured to date.
Tesla Rearview TPMS Light Recall
On December 17, 2024, Tesla issued a recall for certain 2024 Cybertruck, 2017-2025 Model 3, and 2020-2025 Model Y vehicles due to an issue with the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS). Specifically, the TPMS warning light may fail to remain illuminated between drive cycles, which means the driver may not be alerted to low tire pressure. This failure to notify the driver of improper tire inflation increases the risk of a crash, as driving with underinflated tires can compromise vehicle handling and safety.
This issue causes these vehicles to fall out of compliance with the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 138, which mandates that TPMS warning lights remain on when tire pressure is too low. Tesla has announced that a software update will be issued to address this problem, and affected owners will be notified accordingly.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has assigned recall number 24V-935 to this campaign. Tesla is currently recalling a total of 694,304 vehicles due to this issue. For more details or to inquire about the recall, owners can contact Tesla customer service at 1-877-798-3752.
Tesla Rearview Fuel Propulsion Recall
On November 4, 2024, Tesla announced a recall for about 2,000 2024 Cybertruck vehicles due to a fault in the drive inverter.
This issue can lead to a loss of drive power to the wheels, which may significantly affect the vehicle’s performance and increase the risk of a crash.
The recall affects specific 2024 Cybertruck models and is related to a possible defective inverter, which is a key component of the propulsion system.
If the inverter fails, the vehicle may lose drive power, making it harder to accelerate or maintain speed.
Unlike other Tesla recalls that are addressed through over-the-air software updates, this recall requires a physical repair.
Tesla will replace the defective inverter, which means affected owners must visit a service center for the fix.
The Official recall notifications will be sent to affected owners by January 4, 2025. For more details or to inquire about the recall, owners can contact Tesla customer service at 1-877-798-3752, quoting recall number SB-24-40-009.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) number for this recall is 24V-832.
Tesla Rearview Camera Software Recall
On October 3, 2024, Tesla issued a recall for 27,185 of its 2024 Cybertruck vehicles due to a critical rearview camera software issue that increases the risk of accidents.
The Cybertruck Rearview Camera Recall stems from a problem with the rearview camera display, which may experience a significant delay or remain blank for up to eight seconds after the vehicle is shifted into reverse.
This delay reduces the driver’s visibility of the area behind the vehicle, creating a hazardous situation.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), this delayed response time far exceeds the two-second limit required by U.S. federal safety regulations.
Tesla plans to send recall notification letters to impacted owners by November 25, 2024. For any questions or further assistance, owners can contact Tesla’s customer service at 1-877-798-3752. The NHTSA’s official campaign number for this recall is 24V-718.
Notably, this is not the first time Tesla has faced rearview camera issues, with the Model 3 also being recalled for similar problems.
This is the fifth recall for the Tesla Cybertruck alone since its launch in late 2023.
Tesla Font Size Recall
In February 2024, Tesla announced a recall impacting nearly 2.2 million vehicles across the United States due to issues with the font size on warning lights. The recall includes the various other Tesla model year vehicles as well as the 2024 Cybertruck. These vehicles were identified for the recall because of discrepancies in the font size of warning indicators, including Brake, Park, and Antilock Brake System (ABS) lights.
More information on the 2024 Tesla Font Size recall can be found here. The NHTSA’s official campaign number for the 2024 Tesla Font Size recall is 24V-051.
Tesla Cybertruck Accelerator Pedal Recall
In 2024, all Tesla Cybertruck vehicles were recalled due to reports of unintended acceleration. The issue stems from a defective pedal pad that can become stuck, causing the accelerator to remain depressed and increasing the risk of a collision.
Rapid acceleration can displace the accelerator pad, causing it to become entangled with the surrounding trim.
Documents from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reveal that 3,878 vehicles are affected by this recall.
This includes the entire production run of Cybertrucks for 2024, spanning from November 13, 2023, to April 4, 2024.
More information on the 2024 Tesla Cybertruck Recall over Unintended Acceleration can be found here. The NHTSA’s official campaign number for this Cybertruck recall is 24V-276.
Tesla Cybertruck Windshield Wiper Recall
All Tesla Cybertrucks were recalled due to an issue with the front windshield wiper motor controller. This recall affects all 2024 Cybertruck vehicles produced between November 13, 2023, and June 6, 2024.
The problem arises from electrical overstress to the gate driver component, which can cause the windshield wiper motor controller to fail.
A non-operational windshield wiper can reduce visibility in certain conditions, thereby increasing the risk of a collision. The official NHTSA number for this recall campaign is 24V-456.
Tesla Cybertruck Trunk Bed Trim Recall
All 2024 Cybertruck vehicles manufactured from November 13, 2023, to May 26, 2024, have been recalled.
These vehicles feature a cosmetic applique along the exterior of the trunk bed trim, known as the sail applique, which is attached with adhesive.
On the affected vehicles, the sail applique or its adhesive may not have been installed to specifications, potentially causing the applique to become loose or detach from the vehicle.
If the applique detaches while driving, it could pose a road hazard for other motorists and increase the risk of injury or a collision.
A loose applique may also produce a noticeable noise inside the cabin, and customers may observe the applique becoming loose or detaching from the vehicle. The NHTSA’s campaign number for the Tunk Bed Trim Recall is 24V-457.
8 Steps Tesla Cybertruck Owners Should Take to Address Recalls
- Verify the Recall: Visit the official Tesla website or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website to check if your Tesla Cybertruck is affected by any recalls. Use your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) for accurate information.
