Hybrid vehicles are tempting for consumers who want to save at the gas station but do not want to rely entirely on electricity to power their cars. Some hybrid vehicles have many years of reliability to back up their appeal.
Enter the 2018 Volt, Chevroletās updated hybrid model, which boasts 53 miles per gallon. Quickly, however, the 2018 Chevy Voltās problems took the stage. In fact, many critical vehicle parts do not function properly on the 2018 Chevy Volt.

Engine Problems with the 2018 Chevy Volt
The last thing you want is to worry about the integrity of your carās engine. Yet another of the 2018 Chevy Voltās issues involves its engine.
One customer on Edmunds experienced frustration with her 2018 Chevy Volt revving and losing power. Part of this customerās review complained that the Volt lost āall power while in motion.ā The engine revved, but the steering wheel and brake were non-functional, something the customer described as āextremely dangerous.ā
This customer complained, āChevy has reprogrammed some software on my car and they say that will solve the loss of power while moving issue. I hope so. The revving issue is normal per the shop foreman. Really?!ā
Unfortunately, like the foreman in the above reviewerās experience, the manufacturer pretends that this unwanted activity is regular. In the GM Bulletin No.: PIC6161C, the manufacturer claims that these āunwanted engine flairsā are typical. This is the last thing that a customer wants to worry about when driving on the highway.
Blind Spots on the 2018 Chevy Volt
The 2018 Chevy Volt should have the same visibility as any sedan. However, customers complain that the blind spots on the 2018 Chevy Volt make driving scary.
One potential buyer reported to Cars.com that she didnāt buy the Volt in part due to the blindspots. āWorst blind spots I have EVER encountered in any carāand these include side mirrors, rearview, and even the front view! This made me feel very unsafe and uncomfortableāand Iāve noted many other drivers have commented on blind spots as well.ā
For California drivers who spend a lot of time on the freeways, not being able to see properly can be horrifying. However, the manufacturer, GM, has not addressed this issue, leaving 2018 Chevy Volt customers hanging.
Significant 2018 Chevy Volt Brake Problems and Recall
Anyone who has ever driven knows that brakes are critical to a carās safety. However, one of the most serious problems of the 2018 Chevy Volt is its braking system.
One customer reported to the NHTSA: āAfter [I] fully charged my car, I pulled out of the parking garage and into an available parking stall at work . . . . I let my car cruise into the stall while my foot is covering the brakes. Halfway into the parking stall, the car accelerated on its own. I applied the brakes but [it] did not help. It stopped only when it jumped the front concrete stall with 2 front wheels and hit the trees then rolled back. I then immediately shift[ed] the gear to park. The day was sunny and [the] road condition was dry. I was fortunate that it hit the trees and not other cars if I were to take this out on the road.ā This is one of many complaints regarding the 2018 Chevrolet Voltās problems with brakes that fail.
The 2018 Chevy Volt was a part of a recall based on faulty rear brakes. According to NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V576000, one of the 2018 Chevy Voltās common problems is the insufficient coating on the pistons of the brake calipers resulting in gas pockets.
This reduces rear brake performance, and the chance of a collision increases dramatically. A California driver who lives on the freeway should not fear that their brakes may fail when they hit that inevitable rush hour traffic.
