If you drive a Ford diesel truck, you should probably keep an eye out for engine problems. Unfortunately, certain Ford diesel trucks may have been manufactured with defective fuel injector pumps that can lead to excessive wear and damage to the engine over time.

Numerous Ford consumers have reported complete engine failure with their vehicles. Such failures are not only inconvenient and time-consuming to fix, but also come at a steep cost of over $10,000 in repairs for catastrophic engine damage.

These fixes do not appear to resolve these Ford 6.7L engine issues in the long-term and the auto manufacturer has yet to issue a Ford recall related to this issue.

Ford Diesel Lawsuit Overview

A class action lawsuit filed in December 2022 accuses Ford of selling thousands of diesel trucks with defective fuel injection pumps that can cause their engines to fail.

The suit’s plaintiff is the owner of a Ford diesel truck; the cp4 lawsuit alleges that the American automaker produced and sold numerous 2011-present model year Ford diesel trucks that feature 6.7L Power Stroke diesel engines, equipped with faulty high-pressure fuel injection pumps (CP4 pumps).

These supposedly defective fuel injection pumps were supplied by Bosch, according to Keith T. Williams et al., v. Ford Motor Company.

How do I know if my Ford Truck is affected?

Allegedly, the fuel injection pump in affected vehicles appears to have a fragile and unstable design that allows metal components to rub against each other.

The metal shavings this produces can contaminate the fuel system in affected vehicles, which can result in premature wear and engine failure. The Ford 6.7 diesel lawsuit states that Ford knew that the design of the CP4 pumps was not compatible with diesel fuel and the engine produces metal shavings regardless of fuel quality.

What makes and models are affected?

2011-present year Ford Super Duty trucks equipped with 6.7L “Power Stroke” diesel engines may have the manufacturing defect noted in the Ford CP4 Lawsuit.

What is the life expectancy of a Ford 6.7 diesel engine?

Functional Ford 6.7 diesel engines can last over 200,000 miles. Some Ford customers say their Ford engines can last over 500,000 miles.

    Who can join the lawsuit?

If you own or lease a Ford truck with a 6.7L engine, we recommend carefully reviewing your options before deciding whether to participate in the Ford cp4 lawsuit or to pursue a lemon law claim.

Note that if you decide to join the class action, you may forfeit your ability to file am individual lemon law claim. This is because once you become a member of the class action, you are bound by any judgment or settlement that is reached in the case, and you won’t be able to pursue your individual claim through the lemon law process.

To ensure you make the best decision for your situation, you should seek the assistance of an experienced lemon law attorney who can help you understand the legal process and your rights as a consumer. They can assist you in selecting the most suitable option while considering the specific circumstances of your case.

How do I get Ford to buyback my car?

If you are seeking a lemon law buyback from Ford for your truck, you will need to follow the lemon law process in your state. Lemon laws are state-specific statutes that offer consumers protection against defective vehicles, and they may provide you with the right to receive a refund or replacement vehicle from the manufacturer.

The specific requirements for a lemon law buyback vary by state, but generally, you will need to meet the following criteria:

    • Your vehicle must have a substantial defect or other recurring problems covered under the warranty that significantly impairs its use, value, or safety.
    • You must have given the manufacturer a reasonable number of attempts to repair the problem(s).
    • The manufacturer has been unable to repair the problem(s) within a reasonable amount of time or within a certain number of repair attempts.
    • You have notified the manufacturer in writing and given them a final opportunity to repair the problem(s) before pursuing legal action.

If you believe that your situation meets these criteria, you should contact an attorney who specializes in lemon law cases in your state to help you navigate the process of pursuing a buyback from Ford. They can assist you in preparing and submitting the necessary documentation and negotiating with the manufacturer to reach a resolution.

Should I Pursue a Lemon Law Case or a Class Action Settlement?

If your vehicle has significant defects that impair its use, value, or safety and you are the only owner, pursuing an individual lemon law claim may be the better option for you.

With an individual claim, you can seek a refund or replacement vehicle from the manufacturer, and your case will be decided on its own merits. This means that you may be able to receive much more in compensation compared to what you could receive through the Ford 6.7 diesel class action settlement.

Pursuing an individual lemon law claim can provide you with greater control over your case, as you’ll be able to negotiate directly with the manufacturer and their legal team. This direct communication can allow you to present your evidence and arguments more effectively, which may increase the chances of a favorable outcome.

Furthermore, an individual claim can also offer a faster resolution to your case, as the process does not involve the complex and lengthy procedures of a class action lawsuit. Instead, your case will be evaluated on its own merits, and a resolution may be reached more efficiently.

If you are a California consumer who has purchased or leased a new or used Ford diesel truck with a 6.7L engine, you may be concerned about the recent cp4 lawsuit alleging that these trucks were sold with defective fuel injection pumps. Ford Engine Recall

Ford Motor Company has recalled about 42,000 model year 2021 vehicles because their engines may be prone to catching on fire. Affected models include the 2021 Ford Expedition and 2021 Lincoln Navigator. The American automaker is advising customers to park their cars outside, as fires can occur even when the engines are turned off. Of the 16 reported car fires, 12 of them happened while the vehicles were turned off.

Ford says it does not know the source of these fires. They have confirmed however, that all the vehicles involved in these incidents were built between December 1, 2020, and April 30, 2021. The issue likely affects 39,013 vehicles in total – 32,711 Ford Expedition vehicles and 6,203 Lincoln Navigator vehicles. In its latest recall announcement, the auto manufacturer is also recalling a little over 300,000 heavy-duty trucks due to malfunctional airbag systems that may not inflate in an accident.

    2022 Ford Engine Lawsuit

Earlier this month, three owners of 2021 Expedition and 2021 Navigator cars filed a class-action lawsuit against Ford Motor Company. They say that the auto manufacturer did not disclose to customers that certain vehicle models are prone to spontaneous engine fires and there is no fix. The law firm representing the plaintiffs is currently investigating whether the engine issue affects vehicles produced outside of December 1, 2020-April 30, 2021.

The lawsuit highlights that Ford has yet to offer reimbursement to owners and lessees who have dealt with loss of use, loss of value, or out-of-pocket repairs to the engine. Ford does not know why these fires have occurred and they do not appear to have a solution for this issue either.

Other Issues with the 2021 Ford Expedition

Several 2021 Ford Expedition drivers have presented a range of transmission and powertrain concerns to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Some have experienced total system failures. Most of the failure mileages were well below 20,000. Loss of acceleration, hesitation, strange noises, or difficulty changing gears appear to be common. For instance, one driver told NHTSA that they heard a loud popping sound “while the brake pedal was being depressed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where an unknown part was replaced in the transmission.” Despite these extensive repairs, transmission and powertrain symptoms persisted in their vehicle. In addition to strange popping sounds, they also experienced hesitation and transmission failure.

One safety rating of the 2021 Expedition listed on NHTSA’s website discusses a fire-related incident. It states that while the contact’s husband was “driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power. The contact’s husband was able to pull over on the side of the road when they noticed that there was smoke coming from underneath the hood. The contact’s husband opened the hood and saw that the electrical box on the passenger’s side had caught fire.” The SUV ended up in flames. Luckily, no injuries were reported in this incident.

Previous Ford Truck and SUV Recalls

The 2021 Ford Expedition and the 2021 Lincoln Navigator are included in the same three Ford recalls. Just a few months before the engine recall, Ford and General Motors recalled over half a million compact SUV vehicles because the windshield wipers can fail. Recalled Ford vehicles include:

    • 2020-2021 Ford F-150
    • 2020-2021 Ford Expedition
    • 2020-2022 Super Duty F-250
    • 2020-2022 Ford F-350
    • 2020-2022 Ford F-450
    • 2020-2022 Ford F-550
    • 2020-2021 Lincoln Navigator

Both the 2021 Expedition and the 2021 Navigator were also included in a Ford 2021 recall that affected a range of models. Ford said that the front-door side impact pressure sensor modules on several vehicles may have been damaged during supplier assembly. As a result, the airbags in affected vehicles may not deploy properly during a collision. Certain 2022 Super Duty F-250, F-350, and 2021 F-150 models were among the list of affected vehicles.

    Is My Ford a Lemon?

Engine problems are amongst the most concerning lemon symptoms that can present in your vehicle. If you have taken your Ford or Lincoln car in for multiple repairs, then there is a chance that it could be a lemon. A lemon is a vehicle that has defects that the manufacturer is unwilling or unable to fix during a reasonable number of repair attempts. In California, this criterion can be met if any of the following scenarios occurs:

    • The car has been repaired at least two times for a manufacturing defect that can cause bodily injury or death
    • The car has been repaired at least four times for any manufacturing defect
    • Any manufacturing defect has kept a vehicle out of service for at least 30 calendar days

A fire hazard is something you should act on quickly. Both injury and death are possible in a car engine fire. One person has already been injured in the recent Ford engine fires affecting 2021 Expedition and Navigator vehicles. You cannot wait on the manufacturer for a solution. If you suspect that your vehicle may be a lemon, you should obtain legal advice from an experienced lemon law attorney who can help you in determining your options.
