Earlier this year, Kia issued a recall for Niro hybrid and plug-in hybrid (Kia Niro PHEV) models due to a potential short circuit that could result in engine fires, as announced by the NHTSA on Monday. This recall affects 121,411 Niro hatchbacks produced between 2017 and 2022. Every Kia Niro plug-in hybrid from the model years 2018-2022 is also included in the recall, accounting for 16,504 units or 13.6% of the total.

Problems with the Kira Niro Engine

Contaminants in the fluid can affect the circuit board responsible for communicating with the 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. If this circuit board in the hydraulic clutch actuator gets contaminated, it can short-circuit, potentially leading to a fire hazard.

Drivers will be alerted to this issue by the illumination of a HEV warning light in the instrument cluster. Kia has received reports of 10 cases of localized melting of the circuit board but has not recorded any incidents of vehicle fires.

In January of this year, Kia’s North America Safety Office was first alerted to the issue after receiving several incident reports. In one case, the hybrid warning light came on- dealers discovered localized heat damage to the hydraulic clutch actuator connector and harness in the Niro Hybrid. Shortly thereafter, during a preliminary evaluation, another case with similar details emerged, this time involving a Niro Plug-in Hybrid.

What Should I do if I am Experiencing Kia Niro Hybrid Problems?

Kia is strongly advising Niro owners to promptly bring their vehicles to an authorized Kia service center for a thorough inspection. Notifications were sent out to affected drivers by September 26, 2023. Authorized dealers will either replace the actuator or install a new fuse with a modified capacity to reduce the risk of engine fires. All expenses related to this service will be fully covered by Kia.

In September of 2023,  Ford issued a recall due to concerns regarding the brightness and alignment of the front headlights in certain 2023 Ford Edge crossover vehicles. This misalignment raises concerns regarding the hazards of potentially blinding oncoming drivers, in addition to violating federal safety regulations.

To remedy the issue, over 8,500 Ford Edge SUVs are subject to inspection to determine if the front right headlight assemblies require replacement.

According to Ford, the problem stems from the misalignment of the folder assembly with the high beam reflector in the Bi-LED module. This issue was first detected in May of this year when an assembly plant noticed a yellow halo condition on a Ford Edge headlight. After inspections, it was revealed that 4 of 6 of the headlights did not conform to the federal standards of linearity, photometric intensity, or both.

What is Ford’s approach on the recall?

In May and June of 2023, Ford undertook an inquiry into the production records of their supplier and identified a potential issue with right headlights manufactured from Jan 10, 2023, to Jan 17, 2023. Initially, this encompassed 5,445 headlights, a number that was later expanded to 8,523.

In June, the supplier conducted tests on 102 Ford Edge right headlight assemblies from the same production period. Seven of these headlights failed to meet the established standards.

As of August 2023, there have been no reports of warranty claims, filed incidents, accidents, or injuries linked to the Ford Edge headlights.

Recall notifications for affected 2023 Ford Edge owners were scheduled to be sent on October 9, 2023. The faulty fuel pumps were tied to the Genesis G80, GV80 and GV70 vehicles that were produced between June 2021 and December 2021.

A vehicle’s fuel pump plays a crucial role in ensuring the efficient delivery of fuel from the tank to the engine. It is responsible for maintaining the proper fuel pressure and, by extension, the vehicle’s performance, and safety. Any malfunction in the fuel pump can lead to severe consequences.

In affected Genesis vehicles, the fuel pump can deform over time and negatively impact the fuel pump housing. This can result in the fuel pump shutting down thereby restricting gas flow to the engine resulting in loss of engine power and increasing the risk of a crash.

Which Genesis Vehicles are Affected by the Recall?

The Genesis fuel pump recall affects the following Genesis model and model year vehicles:

• 2021 – 2022 Genesis G80
• 2021 – 2022 Genesis GV80
• 2022 Genesis GV70

Genesis’ parent company, Hyundai reported it is aware of hundreds of reports of fuel pump failure. Hyundai has not reported any known injuries or crashes related to the fuel pump defect.

What are the Symptoms of a Genesis Faulty Fuel Pump?

If there is a problem with the fuel pump in a Genesis GV70, GV80, or G80, owners may experience the following symptoms:

• Stalling
• Engine misfires

Jeep has initiated a recall for over 160,000 Jeep Wagoneer, Grand Wagoneer, and Cherokee vehicles due to a potential issue with the rearview camera not displaying an image when the vehicle is placed in reverse.

The recall was announced on August 14th by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and impacts a range of 2021-2024 Jeep Wagoneer and Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles. Earlier this year, the manufacturer issued another Jeep recall affecting the same models due to potential airbag deployment issues that could heighten the risk of injury during a collision.

What causes the Jeep Backup Camera Issue?

The manufacturer officially notified NHTSA, that the vehicles are equipped with a central vision processing/park assist module (CVPAM) that contains software which, under specific circumstances, might obstruct the transmission of the camera signal to the media screen.

Upon investigation, engineers traced the defect to a component supplied by Robert Bosch, which results in a camera display issue due to faulty software. The image display issue violates the federal safety standards regarding rear visibility. FCA US LLC’s Technical Safety and Regulatory Compliance division became aware of a potential concern regarding the rearview camera’s functionality, promoting an engineering evaluation. However, for unknown reasons, the manufacturer did not officially recognize the issue till June 21.

How do I know if my vehicle is included in the Jeep Backup Camera Recall?

The Jeep rear view camera defect is easy to spot – affected vehicles will not display an image on the backup camera screen when shifting into REVERSE.

The following vehicles are included in the recall:
